Last night I picked up another Stagg Jr. Batch #3 ($49.99) for the bunker, an Alberta Dark Batch (not bourbon, but partially bourbon), and the NAS Blade and Bow ($42.99).

I waffled on the Blade and Bow but ultimately fell into Diageo's plan to pull people in with solera aging and the promise that some S-W distilled bourbon was present in some percentage. I will say, it is a very attractive bottle. I have too many things open right now so it may be a while before I get around to tasting it.

Was able to get another bottle of CEHT Cured Oak. I was originally told the store wasn't able to get any, but they got 2 bottles today.

thanks to a tip from a friend, finally was able to snag an ECBP for $55. it was a batch 8 and unfortunately they only had 1. thought they had more so thought about snagging more than one but the other bottles behind the one in front were EC12. tease![/quote

EC12 being behind the counter is not something I like hearing about!

oh no, it wasn't behind the counter, on the shelf. just that I thought that they had 6 bottles of ECBP, but it turned out just the one in front was ECBP and the rest were EC12.

Went for a 750 of Old Forester 1870 'Original Batch' for $50. At only 90-proof, I'm not expecting anything too dynamic; but I cratered anyway and pulled out the wallet.

Partly a 'relationship' purchase at a favored purveyor's establishment.

The marketing story is mildly intriguing, as well. Three different rickhouses, three different ages, three different barrel-entry proofs... if any of this is too be believed.

We shall see in a couple days, when I crack it open.

I went on a short cruise last weekend and picked up a EH Taylor Small Batch and MMCS 375ml in Florida to drink on the boat (Disney allows you to bring your own alcohol).

I found the marketing story intriguing as well (when will I learn) but the contents to be meh.

what the H; figured I'd try the Blade and Bow. Quite mild on first taste.

never heard of the BT Single Oak Project, but a little web surfing in the store made it worth the risk. First review preferred odd number barrels from the top of the trees.

My wife, my son and I all agreed that it was quite good. Barrel #143

so we went right back and grabbed the other 2 bottles. Barrel 79 and 144; another review said the barrels from the bottom of the trees (even numbers) have more vanilla, which we like.

I took my time to work through a bottle of this and found it to be pretty good at times and pretty meh at times. Not consistently good enough to warrant the price for my palate. Not a bad whiskey though, and worth a purchase to find out for yourself.

Time to play a little catch up......

I've been out of town for the last eight days. One of those days involved a tour of Four Roses, Wild Turkey, and a quick swing by the Willett gift shop.

I purchased two WFE 10yr bourbons at Willett. I'm mostly over my compulsion to buy these, but I have just enough WN left in me that I broke down due to standing in front of that cabinet for too long.

My primary target was the Four Roses gift shop and in particular the OESV recipe (as well as three other recipes I haven't tried yet). Though the other three were out of stock, They had the OESV so I bought three. I also bought an OESK since that's a previous favorite, and, a PS OBSV.

After doing the 4R tour, and tasting an excellent single barrel selection as part of the tour, I'm even more impressed with these guys. I've renewed my membership in the cult. (It was not in danger of expiring by any means, I just renewed it way early.)

Congrats! Sounds like it was a great trip and some fantastic additions to your bunker. Enjoy.

Expensive/productive day today:

SA Contradiction

Balcones Blue Corn Bourbon

Two bottles of a 4R Private Selection OBSF I helped choose (Well, I was one of several voters)

Then, because this store has a 10 % discount for purchases of six or more bottles, I grabbed

Booker's 2015-2

OGD114 (I was almost out).

Time to curb the spending a bit, i think.

Baker's. One of a few bourbons recently made available in UT under "Trial Distribution" Here's to hoping my votes, aka dollars, show the DABC we support choice and quality in UT!

Picked up 2 more bottles of Kirkland while in Costco today. One of the best bourbon bargains to be had in my opinion.

Today was bourbon on the cheap, I walked in as the store was replacing price labels in the bourbon isle.

"What is the price of the Sazerac Rye" I ask. "$26.99 this second but as soon as I get to my computer it will be $29.99" the clerk replies.

"Dont you move" I reply as I Grabbed 2 Sazerac Rye's and 2 OGDBIB's 100 proof.

Out the door for under 100.

WT101

this is the only good value pour in my area. $26.99 a liter. There are no value bonded bourbons around here. Makes me sad. Although I do love me some Wt101.
