I know. It's about time I got this months BOTM posted. And it ain't even a bourbon. (per say) :skep: I received a couple of suggestions for Dickle No.12, and there are a lot of members who like it, so I thought why not.

Not much from me again this time. I tried it a couple of times and couldn't seem to get a true feel for it. So, I finally bought a bottle. Just not my cup of tea. I can't seem to get past the barium/chalky/Flintstones Vitamin taste. I couldn't even finish my bottle. I've tried it a couple of more times since, and it's still a no go for me. Probably just me and my taste buds. Like I said, there are a lot of folks here that like it.

So, let's here what y'all have to say about Dickel No. 12, our (not) Bourbon Of The Month.

Cheers, and happy posting!

Joe

As a side note, and FWIW, the Tennessee whiskeys still interest me. On my recent vacation to Florida, we had stops at the Jack Daniels and George Dickle distilleries in mind if we had the time. The spring break traffic was terrible, so it didn't work out. We probably would have stopped at both if we'd had an extra day.

I know. Lots of folx love Dickel juice. I do not.

I've had all of 'em; at least one bottle... Come to think of it I never bought a second bottle of any of 'em.

Flintstone's vitamins just don't do it for me in a glass of Bourbon (or even Tennessee Whiskey).

I have come to believe it's a genetic thing... Eitrher you taste that (some call it green apple flavor, I find vitamin pills); or you don't, based on the genetic gifts from your lineage.

At least that is my belief. Sorry if I've offended those who find it unique and delicious.

I am one who likes the Dickel 12. So much better than Jack Daniels IMO.

I fell in love with #12 after a distillery trip 2 years ago. To me it the perfect combination of flavor, nose, taste. I often recommend it to others who like whiskey, bourbon, Maker's Jack, Beam, etc. but have not tried Dickel.

After reading about it here, I was intrigued by the difference of opinion it seems everyone has about this whiskey. A lot of people really enjoy it and some loath it. In the end I bought a bottle to see for myself if it tasted like Flintstones chewable vitamins and I was shocked when the description was spot on. I am on the fence about this particular whiskey.

I haven't tried this in a while, and this BOTM might inspire me to get another bottle. I remember liking it alot...definitely better than old no. 7, but not as good as JD Single Barrel......but perhaps that isn't fair as the JDSB is almost twice the price. I remember it had a unique cornbread palate note that I thought was cool.

Just poured some from a bottle I've been slowly working on for almost a year. At first I found the vitamin notes repulsive, but this one's grown on me somewhat. Definitely more interesting than that other famous Tennessee Whiskey.

Number 12 = OK but not one I seek out and keep on hand or order in restaurants. Number 8 = one I avoid. I just don't like the taste of the No. 8, and the No. 12 fits in a price/proof range that happens to embrace other things I like better. I wish I could like it better as I like variety when indulging in questionable behavior.

It's great out of the freezer in the summertime! Yes, with the vitamin note and all. Much preferred here, when compared against JD.

I've bought a couple bottles over the years. There has always been a long time between purchases. I finally realized that it's supposed to taste that way. I didn't just get an odd bottle. I taste the children's chewable vitamins taste. Also, in the nose I detect something similar to dried fish food flakes, like goldfish or tropical fish food. Originally I wanted to like it, turns out not to be my thing.

On the other hand, Dickel's rye sourced from Indiana, I can recommend.

Oh boy....Dickel has been on my list to try, specifically the 9 year or this one.......that is, until just today in fact when I tried Bib & Tucker and tasted that vitamin flavor I hear everyone talk about when they refer to Dickel. I don't know if B&T is sourced from Dickel, but that flavor is unmistakeable and gives me great pause to try Dickel. That flavor is just not my thing.

Not an everyday pour for me but when the mood strikes nothing else will do. I definitely get the vitamin taste but it's a welcome change of pace for me. It's a bit diminished in the 9yr but definitely still there. The Dickel profile is certainly unique and I'm happy that they've maintained it.

I have actually never had this before. I only keep one TN whiskey at a time and that's usually the JD Holiday Select since that suits me well enough. If I ever see Dickel #12 on a menu in the future maybe I'll give it a whirl (but I can't say I've ever seen that so this may be one I just never try.)

The thing about Dickel for me and it's all Dickel, not just No. 12 is there is nothing that makes me want more. I find unoffensive in every respect but there isn't something that says drink me again. Just blah.

I bought a bottle of this probably six months ago out of curiosity, hated the vitamin note, and haven't sipped from it since.

This thread reminds me I need to reevaluate. Does airtime help at all with de-Flintstoning?

If you haven't opened it in six months, and it's nearly full, it probably hasn't changed much. Might be worth a revisit though. Maybe let it air out in the glass and see if it's more enjoyable?

I probably buy a bottle or two of Dickel a year, and for 2014 it was a 9-year store selection which was great. There's a 14-year store selection at my local shop but I haven't decided whether to pick one up...it's pricey ($65).

As for the No. 12, I'd probably buy more if it were still under $20. I like it as a change of pace, and I like the high corn mash bill. Is it because of all the Georgia Moon I drank in college? Don't know, but I like my corn whiskey and loved the No. 1 (even though it sits next to the No. 12 on the shelf and is priced a couple of dollars higher.)

I just got a bottle of this. Haven't tried it yet but I'm looking forward to it. I hadn't read about the vitamin taste but I'm interested nonetheless.

I'm a big fan of the 12. I get charcoal and brown butter notes. In my limited experience, it's one of my favorite $20 bottles.

I have had 3 bottles over the last few years. One was very good, the other two had too much of that Vitamin taste...yuck.

Had it a couple of times, the first time I tried it...yuck, and the last time I had it at a bar (because someone else bought me one because of some special going on)I couldn't even finish it....yuck! Same goes for some Prichards Tennessee whiskey I tried, but I don't mind the JD SB.

Love Dickel. The vitamin taste is so unique and fits my palate perfectly. The 9 and 14 year I like better but the #12 is awesome in its own right.
