Booker's 2014-6, FRsb, and a ECBP if you can find it....I know they aren't wheaters but they are the three I'd recommend

I'd go Booker's (or KCSB if Booker's isn't available) from Beam, Blanton's (or RHF) from BT, and any (pick your poison) of the 4R store select barrel proofers (or the standard SB, if none of those are available to you).

Just to pile on... I'd also throw in a ECBP from Heaven Hill and a WTRB, just to round out the majors.

Now this here is solid advice and is exactly how I would roll.

My 3 would be as follows: Larceny to cover the wheaters, 4R private select barrel strength OBSO, OBSV, OBSF, OBSK, OESF, OESQ, OESO, OESK any of those have been an A++ in my experience and a RR Smb SB as the store pick I have had of that is fantastic. That would provide a pretty wide spectrum of flavor profiles across 3 bottles o so really good SBS opportunities there. With the store select barrel proofers (4R & RR) try to sample before purchase to see if you like 'em though they will most likely be very good.

Handles of Larceny and EC12 for every day, and EH Taylor Barrel Proof for the weekend.

I really appreciate all the suggestions and I have noted them.

I did finally get out today and decided to go to a kind of, out of the way, Lee's Discount Liquor Stores, there are 17 locations in the Las Vegas, Henderson & Summerlin Areas. When I walked in, I ran into a friend that I had not seen in years. Of course, we shot the shit for awhile and then got down to hunting. I showed him my list and there were a couple available, but after some discussion, I decide on two that were not on my list. My friends recommendations were high, so I went with them. One being a Straight Rye, which I have been thinking about and the other a Bourbon. Any thoughts on these guys?

The Beam is Beam, the Old Tahoe from what I've read is another NDP.

Non-Distiller Producer

They buy it from a distiller and finish/blend it to make it their own special juice.

Would like to hear your thoughts on the Beam. Can't tell much about the Old Tahoe brand, the label says 'bottled for' rather than 'distilled by' which is market speak for sourced. Did find a few claims for it though:

Old Tahoe Rye is made from 100% rye sourced from a local ranch which seems an odd mashbill and even odder as Neveda isn't famous for being a source of quality rye grain.

Tahoe claims their rye ages faster than Bourbon so it's already fit to bottle at three years old. I don't believe history is on their side with that one.

The all important water (their term) comes from a Sierra Nevada spring fed aquifer which is a fancy way of describing the reservoir that supplies the city tap water.

Tahoe Rye is very well priced. No, it's not, Jim Beam green label Rye is older, higher proof and retails for half as much.

I do like the label though.

I had the JBSB some months back but I hadn't had many bourbons at that point to compare it to but I recall enjoying it.

Thanks for all the input guys. It's appreciated.

From what you all are saying I probably made a mistake with both choices, however, I recall reading a few very positive comments on the JBSB, however, I know and/or knew nothing about the Tahoe Rye. I went with a suggestion on that one.

Well, when I crack them, I'll start to learn first hand!

I'd probably buy a Weller, and maybe another Weller, and top it off with a Weller.

Cheers! Joe

Oh I wouldn't say mistakes, we all make purchase decisions based on available information and after we've paid for the education we buy based on what we know. I stick with the basics mostly because I've learned what I like and the majors accommodate me right well. I won't buy from any Non Disclosing Producer who refuses to tell me from whom they bought the whisky, but I will buy from some like Smooth Ambler who are openly honest about what they're offering.

I will also pay more for Bourbon from small distillers like Tom McKenzie (Finger Lakes), Tom's Foolery, Todd Leupold and others who are following their own vision of the best they can craft. Not that I believe the taste sensation will be that much better (I might not even like them that much) rather I just wish to support their efforts.

And I will buy some of the new products like Pikesville or Beam Rye/BIB because, well, cause I can.

Better my account than my bunker. Of course Old Grand Dad would be hard to flip unless there's a surge in demand for the old style label.

my next 3 purchases will be private selection frsb, ewsb 04 and blantons. would love to grab cteh cured oak but its nowhere to be found here.

Wow typoerror, that's pretty much exactly what I would choose for three bottles too. Though I can't get private selection FRSB overseas, so it would have to be the regular single barrel.

Okay folks, this thread has been pruned now. The title of this thread is, "Which 3 Bourbons Would You Buy?". If you want to talk about NDP's, please do it in the proper forum/thread. Thread drift, thread hijacking and cross posting have all become more and more frequent as of late. For some of you folks that have been around a while, you should know better. For some of you newer members, I'll post a couple of links for you in case you have any questions. I had to clean up another thread, and like I said there, if you haven't read them before, you should have. Let's get back on topic please.

If you like wheated bourbon, my choice in order would be OWA, WL12 and then Larceny. All three are worth a try.

If you want a mix of styles, I would try another wheated bourbon (something other than what you have tried), FR SmB and a BIB.
