Hello all,

I'm looking for suggestions for a good mixer with ginger ale. I usually use Colonel Lee for this purpose, and it's quite good, especially at $15 for 1.75L Anyone have something else to suggest; I can't bring myself to use any small batch or single barrel.

Thanks.

How about Four Roses Yellow?

I've been meaning to try some cocktails with Bourbon and Ginger Beer. I guess they call them "Kentucky Mules" or "Nor'easter" cocktails.

I would also check out the "cocktails" subforum as this may have been discussed before.

I tend to use MGP rye for Highballs. Usually Dickel Rye with a dash or two of Regan's Orange Bitters.

ETA: When I'm feeling extra frugal I'll use Benchmark and Angostura Bitters.

I generally prefer a high rye or rye forward Bourbon for cocktails. I've tried other styles, low rye, wheat, even premiums, and concluded I like the spice that rye brings to the table.

I'm with Squire on this one. I rarely mix Bourbon with anything; but on the rare ocassions when I want a mixer, it's generally Vernors Ginger Ale or Canada Dry G.A. (those ones are always available here, and pretty cheap). They are kinda sweet compared with a good ginger ale or ginger beer, so the Bourbon I almost always mix with either is: Old Grand Dad BIB. That makes a real nice, somewhat sweet, spicy hi-ball.

Nailed it! Vernor's and a high rye or straight rye of at least 100 proof= good hot weather ( ok or cold weather) drinking.

EWBIB, a good ginger ale, and a couple shakes of Angostura aromatic or orange bitters will make you a happy man.

Many thanks. Schweppes is the best commonly available ginger ale. I like Goslings ginger beer; in fact I like it enough to drink it with nothing added to it. I always get the feeling that it has such a pronounced flavor that it would over power any half decent whiskey you mixed.

My wife loves ginger in drinks, so we usually have some Goslings around. It does take a pretty big bourbon to stand up to it. OGD 114 or EC12 pretty well for that. And yes, ECBP has been known to get mixed with Goslings in my house and end up in my hand. It was the debil that made me do it! The Debil!

I've only tasted a handful of highballs, and I haven't found any bourbon that I like which goes well into the cocktail. But the Hakushu 12 in a highball is delicious.

Gosling Ginger beer with Ritt 100. Had one yesterday and it was quite tasty. Spicy on the lips.
