This was a topic a while back but the thread is closed now, so I thought I'd initiate a new one.

Finally finished this Wathens Sb that I've had for probably 3-4 yrs now, it just never would go away, not because I liked it so much, but the exact opposite. Usually only have bottles open for a very short time, some of the others that have been around for awhile : PVW20 & 23 -3yrs or so, and although not a bourbon, but The Glenlivet 15... had that sucker now for about 8yrs if not more! Just not a Scotch guy. Oh yeh ,and I have a BT EC (rice) it's been around for probably 5 yrs or so.

So what bottles in your library just wont go away and for how long.

haha, that and willet pot still for me. altho I use the Wathen's for old fashions now. it just doesn't have enough flavor for my taste. it's only been around for about a year though. and I tried the WPS the other day and it seems to be more to my liking now than when I first opened it 8 months ago.

For me, my Woodford Reserve bottle is going on 3 years now. A more recent addition although not bourbon, Redbreast 12 year. Tastes like vitamins to me. I guess scotch and irish whisky just aren't my cup of tea.

At some point, I will probably just use the Woodford for some cocktails.

Two for me: Basil Hayden's and Baker's. I don't think they are terribly bad, it is just that in the 2-3 years I have had them, I have had so many that I consider better.

I've got an Old Overholt 4 year that I've had open for more than 10 years! There's under half left and it's not that I don't like it, just always seem to find a rye I like a bit more. Also, not a bourbon but a scotch... Cardhu. Just do not like it at all and it's been open about the same length of time. Can't bring myself to dump it, hoping that one day a friend will try it and like it I guess.

WT Rye 81, finally polished it off as part of getting my open bottles paired down in preparation for moving to a new place but it was open for 3+ years and still would be if it wasn't worth moving.

I have a handle of Jack Daniels that has to be at least two and a half years old by now. It's about half gone. Used to be my go-to back in the day, but other than a nice fat pour on the rocks once last summer on a hot day sitting out on the deck, it's basically untouched for quite a while. I always put it out when I host periodic poker games, but my whiskey drinking buddies usually go for the better stuff, and the other guys drink beer.

Finally finished a HW Campfire recently that was around for 2 years + - Just wasnt my thing, felt the scotch in it was overpowering everything else. Not bourbon but, I have this bottle of Orleans Bitter (cider with red currant and bitters) that I bought to change up cocktails I was using Campari for and I just dont like it...like 90% of the bottle left.

"Copper Fox Whisky" distilled and bottled by Belmont Farms of Virginia, Inc., Culpeper, Virginia. It is an early Rick Wasmund product; according to Wiki, Virginia granted his distilling license in 2005, and this bottle, about 3/4 full now, says it's 4 months old. I'm pretty sure I bought it in 2006. Mr. Wasmund's operation now is in Sperryville, Virginia. I also have a 3/4 full bottle of his early Single Malt (also reallyreally young) in there somewhere which I bought about the same time. Once every few years, I have a sip from each bottle, but just a sip. Thank goodness his later creations are much better, but I kept these as a reminder to watch out for young stuff - it usually is nothing but trouble.

I've had a bottle of BF Rittenhouse Rye that's going on a year open. I'd probably have drunk it by now if I ever remembered it was there, but its over with my cocktail stuff so I always forget about it.

Generally bottles don't stay open for too long 'round these parts, though. If I don't enjoy a bourbon by the time its about 1/3 to 1/2 consumed, I dump it into my cocktail/coffee/cooking bourbon decanter and move on. If it's malt whisky, I just start using it for Mamie Taylors. I've made some pretty expensive Mamie Taylors in my day . . .

I had a bottle of Jack Daniel's that I originally got for a New Year's Eve party about 10 years ago. I didn't realize that people were bringing their own booze so it never got touched. That bottle stuck around for a long, long time just mocking me. I would use it for whiskey sour jello shots (tasty!), BBQ sauce, glazes and a few other things, but never all that often. It just really never tickled my fancy for drinking so just sat on my bar shelf, laughing silently at me. I just finished it up a few months ago and boy did it feel good tossing that into the recycling bin!

I've got a Glenlivet 12 stamped 3/21/10. As someone else noted above, I'm also not a scotch guy. I just have it for guests who want scotch. I'll probably replace it with Glenmo 10 whenever someone finishes off this damn bottle. But again, it'll be for others, not me.

I have a handle of '84 Charter 7 year that tastes like butter, tallow and it's pretty musty...I can't ever bring myself to drink it....wonder what I should do with it, to be honest.

I still have a Copper Fox from about 2006 and agree, it was not good at all. I have an early single malt and liked it right from get go. And yes, their products have improved greatly.

EWBiB. I purchased it based on the love it was given from several sources. I enjoyed the first few pours, but now it has this weird roasted peanut funk that I have a hard time dealing with. Not so much smoky as wet wood.

Mellow Corn. I don't enjoy the oily, sweet, one dimensional flavor.

Ardbeg Galileo. Enough said.

High West Double Rye. Too much pine and heat for the proof.

High West Campfire. I actually don't mind this, but until my bottle of Glenmorangie Ealanta (which is amazing) is gone, Campfire isn't even considered.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Tastes like soap.

Larceny. I bought a bottle when it first came out and I still have little more than half of it left. I just don't care for the stuff.
