Are we going to see any arrests on the secondary market?

I was thinking today about how the secondary bourbon/whiskey market is probably setting itself up well for somebody to get in some legal trouble. I've never bought or sold on the secondary market, I think its BS that I can't with my local laws but I probably wouldn't even if I could because I don't care too much for the big ticket items, but...

I'm wondering how long before the hype and mainstream interest gets to be enough that a Sheriff/Police Chief and DA up for election decide to do some craigslist cruising and bust some guy trying to flip their Pappy/BTAC lotto winnings. Seems like its only a matter of time before somebody gets a bug in their bonnet about seeing "secondary" prices quoted and decides to make an example.

What do you think?

It's already happened. Check the PVW thread (I think that's where it is). It happened in one of the control states.

Shows how much I read the premium subforum :) I browsed through the thread and didn't see it but not really surprised, am a bit surprised that it didn't get more attention in less mature circles than ours.

Sure, there might be a couple of random arrests but there are more serious issues for the police and the local DA to tackle. Of course I live in libertine central so my take is admittedly skewed.

sometimes get a zealous officer with a bug, and sometimes things are too blatant to ignore. Like the guy that collected wine and champagne for 30 years and then put it all on Craig's list when he retired.

I think just a few arrests made public would help slow down flippers and maybe allow for a few bottles to be left on the shelf.

A few arrests won't stop the flippers. A lot of flipping is done by enthusiasts among enthusiasts. If some guy in state X gets popped some flippers might avoid state X but that leaves a lot of market.

Some people in Iowa were putting Templeton Rye on Ebay a Craight's list. The state of Iowa said knock it off or we will press charges.

Why would you bother flipping Templeton...can't you pretty much get it *everywhere*?
