This may surprise some and not others, but I was in my local liquor store today and noticed that they had gotten some BT in. I was tempted until I saw the price...$34.00!!! I almost gasped out loud. One row below the BT, was ER10 for $29.99. What the heck is going on! A NAS bottle of BT which I believe is the same mash bill as the ER 10 which has an age statement and is supposed to be single barrel juice. What am I missing? The last time I saw BT on the shelf, it was under $25. Honestly I was a little frustrated and at the same time curious as to whether this is supply and demand, or price gouging or both? Either way, I was glad to already have a bottle of both at home.

Cheers! -BE

I would think your best chance of getting an answer to satisfy your curiosity is to ask the store why the price has increased that much. If the ER10 has been around for awhile the next order they get may be priced higher than the BT. Or maybe it is a mistake. Or maybe they just think it sells well enough that they can get the premium for it. But likely only they know!

Heehee. Bruce that would make too much sense and not nearly be provocative enough...

Methinks 'tis tyme for some comparison shopping. Are there any other stores in your neighborhood? No? At that price, mailorder may be in order. Check out Binny's Whiskey Hotline.

BT locally is $22 when not on sale while ER10 is $26 not on sale.

I paid $26 for a store pick BT today. That is state min pricing here in MI.

Holy Cow! Guess I'll quite complaining about the price hike. As recommended in an earlier reply, I will approach the employees at the store and ask them if they know why the price spiked...if nothing else, I will at least get a shoulder shrug or head nod.

Is that CAD or USD?

I thought about doing this today for the Stagg Jr at $70 and Baby Saz at $35 (both well above state minimum price here) but it was my first time at this new store.

Here in NY BT is $30 and ER10 $37 yet EC12 can be had for $25, does it cost more to produce ER10 or BT?

That price for a 750 ml bottle of BT is utter nonsense.:bs: Somebody's either priced it wrong, or they're taking undue advantage of the situation.

Here's a winning strategy given those circumstances: buy up all of their ER10.;)

We are taxed quite a bit here on our booze.

Well, you know, the name Buffalo Trace is the name of the distillery where Pappy is made.

Bought a handle here last week for 38 but was told it was going to allocated so I bought 2.

EC12 is on sale at Chicagoland Binny's for $29. BT is usually $24ish around these parts.

I'm probably in the big time minority but for $24 I can find stuff in the 14-20 dollar range that I'd much prefer. I don't get all the hype around BT. Maybe $20 a bottle but not $24.'

I love WSR and OWA but as a previous post stated BT is where Pappy comes from and I'm a bit turned off by the price hikes I see WSR and OWA getting around these parts. Like I say I love that stuff and I want to tour the BT distillery when I finally make it down to KY. But if BT gets added to W12, WSR, and OWA as bottles that get limited distribution and price hikes I'm happy seeking out Heaven Hill's offerings for the time being. But on the other hand I'm the first inline at Binny's when they have OWA for $22.99.

It's just frustrating hunting out the stuff from the BT distillery at times.

Doesn't mean I don't think its dang good stuff!

I know I'm in the minority here but I just don't like BT or ER10 one bit. I've purchased a couple bottles of each, at least a year apart, and they just taste bitter to me.

For those of you who love them I do hope the prices don't go to high.

I was recently at a local shop and saw that they increased the price of BT by about $5 and put it behind glass. I took a picture because of how funny it looked.

It makes sense that most pricing at the retail level is based on sales volume and supply, not an understanding of the bourbon industry or associated market trends. Couple that with the fact that many (most) bourbon "enthusiasts" know just enough about bourbon to be dangerous (to their own wallets).

I bought a store select for $22 this past weekend. Asked about a couple other BT products and the owner seemed to imply that they were "difficult", not necessarily to get but that the reps or distributors or whoever demand a lot in order to get many of their products on the shelves and he wasn't talking about BTAC, VW, or even Weller stuff.

As for the ER10, I prefer BT to it anyway but find it very surprising given the age statement. Aren't they the same mash?

To my taste, I like standard BT and will add a store select if one should one appear locally and garner favorable reviews. ER10 is another story and I am right there with ya on the bitterness, neither deserve elevated prices though.
