Inspired by my latest acquisition...

(It holds about 1.75 L)

I decided to do a blind tasting of a current bottle of MM

and a 1980 pre-UPC bottle

And here is what similar amounts look like:

Can you guess which is the 1980 MM?

Needless to say the 1980 is a much richer bottle. Would glut aging have applied to MM and it may have been older than the current stuff?

I would imagine they would have had older stock on hand that would have been blended in. It also wouldn't surprise me if they used a lower distillation and/or entry proof at the time.

I think the answer to that question is clear... or in this case, darker.

Looking at the third picture raises the question. Do you paint your toenails?

Amazed you noticed. I was changing the batteries in my lawn mower and dropped it on my toe. My verbal tirade is still being talked about by my neighbors.

I opened a 1972 Maker's at the gazebo this year. Despite its low proof (86.6), it was pretty incredible, and rivaled some of the old S-W whiskey on the table.

Thanks again Luther. That bottle of MM was incredible, to say the least.

Cheers! Joe

My verbal tirade is still being talked about by my neighbors.

Most of my neighbors are comfortably past retirement age so the day after I hit my lower leg square with a hard-swung engineer's hammer I went to several houses to applogize.

God love 'em, two invited me in for a beer and told stories for a while. Wild Turkey from one!
