5cents
Just bought a bottle of this years release. When I got home, I got thrown for a loop. It was "put in oak" in 2006. What happened to the 2005 barrels?
pellidon
They are out there. My Meijer store has them.
fozzy71
I killed my 04 bottle (loved it) and have an 05 and 06 in the bunker.
Jazz Nut
In my area, Minneapolis, I can find the 2004, 2005, and 2006 on shelves! Very odd. I have 2004, and 2005 open and they both are great. Almost want to open the 2006 to compare.
5cents
Hmmm, my store here in Ohio jumped straight from 04 to 06. I had always thought this was a ten year bourbon. Thanks for the help guys.
jeffrey r
Hmmm, my store here in Ohio jumped straight from 04 to 06. I had always thought this was a ten year bourbon. Thanks for the help guys.It has typically been a roughly 10 year bourbon, but I've bought bottles closer to 9 years, and bottles over 10 years. But like everything else these days, I suspect this is just a move towards younger juice to keep up with demand.
amg
Yeah, I had a EWSB 2001 that was 9 years 10 months, so it's not new for them to be under 10, but this is definitely the earliest I've seen them show up on the shelves. At least the age is very clear from the back label, still. As long as it's good whiskey I don't really care if it's a few months younger.
Jazz Nut
I have a 2004 bottle that was barreled on 2/26/04 and bottled in November 2014, from barrel 1450. It's the oldest I've seen. Haven't cracked it open yet.
jeffrey r
Per a HH mass email today:"It seems that people just can't keep their hands off a good bottle of whiskey. We're only half way through the year, but we've already run through our entire Evan Williams Single Barrel 2005 vintage. Rest assured, our 2006 vintage has been held to the same exacting standards as each bottle marked by our master distillers from the previous year. No need to hoard that lovely, lush bourbon flavor for yourself - entertaining and gift-giving are still excellent options."Another sign that this bourbon boom is for real. KyleCBreese
It made me go pick up another bottle of the 2005. I'd like to have a bottle on hand for a 5-year flight, at all times.
WhiskyRI
Have to admit that letter sent me into a panic - I've a run from 1993 - 2006, but only had one bottle of 2005 because I was waiting for some older 2005s (or at least ones to have had an extra Summer) to hit the shelves (everything up here was about 9 years and 3 months). I went to 6 stores on Monday finding either 2006, nothing, a 2004s. Finally found a store with some 2005s. So now I can put a few extra bottles aside. I try to buy and put aside several from each year to drink, and to give away as gifts. There aren't many, readily available, affordable year dated bourbons out there so EWSBs and Henry McKenna's 10 years are my go-to bottles for gifting. It's fun to give a kid, and his/her dad, a bottle on their 21st birthday that was "born" the same year they were.

EWSB fills that niche, and is good at what it is. A thoughtful and affordable gift as well!
Renegator
The 06 bottle I saw on the shelf was only 8 years and 10 months old.

O'DubhGhaill
I found a local big store with several bottles of the EWSB lined up on a shelf. The first four bottles were 2006, but as I reached far back on the shelf, I discovered two 2004 and about four 2005. My son's 10th birthday was last week, so I picked up three 2005s, one to drink now, and two to open with him in 11 years. I bought the two 2004s, one for now, one for later. I'll have to go back for two 2006s, but I am strapped right now...

They won't go bad. No need to buy for all potential guests but it could be nice to reprise his "birthday bourbon" for the two of you and his best man. Sounds like you are bringing the boy up right. jackthedog
I've got an 04 and just grabbed an 06, I'm hoping to track down the 05 but haven't had any luck. Maybe I'll get lucky and stumble on some. The 06 is everywhere by me.

O'DubhGhaill
Yes indeed flahute! Anyone with a several-year-flight able to offer a comparative review that includes the 2006 yet? I have opened one of my 2005s and hope to acquire a 2006 or two in a few weeks after fund-recovery hopefully makes that possible.
