Rum & Coke... love it (don't matter what rum). Crown & Coke, Seagram's 7 & Coke.... love it (Seagram's & Coke was my drink for the longest). jeff Posted June 13, 2015 Share Posted June 13, 2015 I avoided Bourbon for a long time because my early experiences in college were "Beam and cokes." I couldn't stand them and, since I like coke, it must have been the Bourbon that made it taste bad. Fast forward 25+ years, and it's still the same: I like coke, I love Bourbon, but together I find them repulsive. Straight for me with some ice now. Neat when I open a new bottle. The bottles I don't like I give to the wife. She will drink anything. I like it neat, with a cube, in a classic cocktail (Manhattan,old fashioned, sour), I cook with it, and occasionally enjoy it with a splash of ginger beer or ale. I just finished my last bottle of New Coke, and am down to three 12oz bottles of Crystal Pepsi. Does anyone know where I can find more dusty soda? It just doesn't taste the same with current product. I make mint juleps at home and when I am outside grilling in the summer I always have my bourbon on the rocks. I will occasionally add a little lemon and club soda. BTW OGD114 makes a helluva great mint julep.In my younger days it was Crown (Royal) and coke or Beam and coke. That doesn't appeal to me anymore. I primarily use it in vattings with Stagg Jr. to bring the proof down and round of the rough edges. It hasn't been necessary with Stagg Jr. batch 3, but I still have bottles of batch 2. BigBoldBully Posted August 9, 2015 Share Posted August 9, 2015 I love mixing whiskey with soda, usually a good ginger ale, but it has been a very long time since I mixed anything with cola. In my experience, the best ones to mix with ginger ale have some rye in them and are fairly assertive. On the cheap side, FC6 does quite well. Actually just any about any rye recipe from Heaven Hill will work. One of my absolute favorites, though, is 2011 Old Forester Birthday bourbon with ice and some extra gingery brew.
