deathevocation
If I'm mixing, it will usually be Evan Black with 7 Up. Having a premix can of Bulleit and Cola right now - delicious.
latech15
I gave up soft drinks about a year ago and I really can't stand them anymore. After not having them for so long, when I do have a sip, the sugar is just overpowering. I think that we all get a little acclimated to the sugar in our lives. My tolerance for anything with a lot of sweetness is very low. I had my first old fashioned a few months ago, and I can honestly tell you that I will not be having any mixed drink that starts off with simple syrup. When its hot, give me a beer. When I am relaxing, neat or an ice cube is all I need. I do have a certain amount of respect for a liquid that (even for the middle shelf stuff) is older than my kids. It went through a lot to get here to my glass. I feel like the master distillers took great pains to make sure that it tastes the way that it does neat. Who am I to say that they are wrong and that it would be so much better diluted with some old soft drink. I am also not a snob though, if you buy a bottle and want to pour wal-mart grape soda in it, go for it, you don't hurt my feelings one bit. If I saw you pour it in Pappy's, I might try and discourage it though.

Some of those legendary master distillers were known to enjoy their bourbon with a little 7-Up.
latech15
Some of those legendary master distillers were known to enjoy their bourbon with a little 7-Up.I have read that here, and as I said, I can't argue that you shouldn't. My attitude is simply how I feel about it, and I am the first one to admit that I feel very strongly about some really ridiculous things. I'm a bit quirky in some areas of my life. I would certainly not mind mixing if the mixing did not add the sweetness that I dislike. I like the bourbon flavor. I really don't like adding anything to it for any reason other than to see what water or ice does to the initial flavor, or to simply cool it down. SqueakScolari
Old Charter 8 is not bad on it's own considering the price. It's in the BT family. I primarily use it in vattings with Stagg Jr. to bring the proof down and round of the rough edges. It hasn't been necessary with Stagg Jr. batch 3, but I still have bottles of batch 2. It excels in these vattings.thanks. I bought them both and enjoyed them neat, but will try a little vatting experiment. I also am a bit more partial to the WSR now.
