BCRich2204
Reading through some of these threads, I've noticed that some of you drink things other than Straight Bourbon. Some of you mix your bourbon (I'm not judging), some of you supplement your bourbon... with beer. Just curious, do any of you drink other spirits on the regular... wine, tequila, rum? I myself find myself focusing on rum when I can't find new & interesting bourbons. That's sort of my thing, I visit all the stores in my area on a rotation sort of. I haven't found my staple bourbon yet, so I generally buy two bottles of something I haven't had before. There are times when I visit a store & they don't have anything I haven't had, or anything in particular that I'm craving, so I'll buy a rum I haven't had. For whatever reason, lately I've been craving tequila. I spent a few months in Mexico a while back & as you can imagine... there was a lot of tequila. & I drank a lot of it. So, what about you. Are you a bourbon drinker only? Or do you dabble in other spirits?
Flyfish
I have never run out of new and interesting bourbons. Not only are there new iterations of the established bourbons (think EWSB or OF BB, but any of the LEs from FR or PH) but there are old standards that I may not have had in several years. Returning to them can be like a whole new experience. It just never gets boring.
ramblinman
So, what about you. Are you a bourbon drinker only? Or do you dabble in other spirits? For the most part bourbon and rye, about 50/50 as far as what I reach for and 80/20 as far as whats on my shelf. The occasional scotch if someone else has brought a bottle to share or orders a round but I've never bought a bottle.During the summer I'll have some rum, maybe 1 bottle through the course of it, a good rum and coke is a nice treat on a hot day at the coast.Beer I got bored with, used to be a big beer drinker, but it was making me a lard ass. I still love a good lambic or gueze and will have one if one draft but sadly thats not too often the case. Tony Santana
Sure, mostly bourbon, but my tastes are eclectic - I'll drink rye, Irish whiskey, wheat whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, the occasional Scotch or Japanese whisky, Bourye, Son of Bourye . . . .Things have changed substantially over my adult life, but in the last few years I don't drink a lot of beer, will have a glass of wine pretty much only with a steak or maybe Italian food, a margarita (rocks, not blended) with Mexican food, the occasional Bloody Mary, and a couple of Tom and Jerry's (rum and brandy) at Christmas. Still, when I drink alcohol - which isn't every day - 4 out of 5 times it's whiskey, and of those times it's probably a similar percentage where it's bourbon. BCRich2204
I have never run out of new and interesting bourbons. I wish that were the case here. I get what you're saying, about the different iterations & the classics, etc... but I'm not so lucky. Or for whatever reason I just don't find too many pours to be interesting enough. I've literally got a dozen shops on my rotation & their shelves are pretty stagnant.
Thig
Quantity wise I probably drink more port wine than bourbon but then the port is only 20%abv. I enjoy some of the craft beers and even make a few but don't really drink a lot of beer. My bunker /cellar has about 600 bottles of wine /port and about 100 bottles of Bourbon so I drink some of all of it.
flahute
Predominately bourbon for me. I love rye when I'm in the mood for it, but am not in the mood as much as bourbon so I have less of it.There are very few scotches that I like and the ones I do like rank below bourbon for me so I don't go there often. Same with Irish and Canadian whiskies.I've dabbled with rum but generally am not moved enough by it to choose it over bourbon. I agree with Flyfish that bourbon just never gets boring.I used to be a big beer drinker - especially Pale Ales and IPA's - but anymore I seem to be somewhat allergic to beer. I get congested and get a migraine headache shortly after drinking one so I've given up.I do like wine a lot but find that it ruins my palate for a bourbon later in the evening so I limit wine for special occasions. Kartofel
I mostly drink bourbon, with other whiskeys being secondary. I have recently started exploring wine as I was running out of room to store spirits, and the higher turnover rate with wine lets me explore more. When it's hot, Ricard is pretty great. GaryT
Despite several attempts to "like" beer - I've yet to acquire the taste. Besides bourbon, I love a good rye whiskey, and thanks to members of this board I've had my horizons broadened to whiskies from around the world. I enjoyed wine for a bit, but by and large - bourbon and rye are my sweet spots (with scotch starting to gain more traction - and as the bourbon/rye prices continue to rise, it isn't as lopsided of a cost/value proposition for my palate). BigRich
I tend to drink mostly whiskey of every variety and also enjoy a variety of brandies and rums. Wine I enjoy a lot but really only with food. Beer is a social obligation drink for me. ( if everyone else is and there's no whiskey). Tequila and I danced when I was younger and I didn't come out on top so I give him the right of way now. Vodka....I see little purpose for and have little use for. Vodka is for people who just want to get drunk. Although I do keep a little in the house for guests and a couple of red sauces I cook. SBOmarc
Bourbon, Rye and sometimes an Irish. Red Wine, Port and beer when I am not trying to lose weight. What is Scotch?
smokinjoe
I predict that when TANSTAAFL2 reports all of the different things he drinks, it will be the longest post in SB history... Or, The Boss runs out of bandwidth before Bruce finishes...
weller_tex
I have about a case of beer per year, buy a good Scotch like a Talisker or Springbank 3 or 4 times a year. The rest is 70 pct bourbon 30 pct rye. I will make mint juleps occasionally and like a good Manhattan.
Richnimrod
Primarily Bourbon... Because, with my iron palate, it's one of the things that I CAN Really Taste! But, I'll order or even occasionally make a Margharita, a dry martini, or some other libation.... I'd say by volume it's probably 30 to one...?On St. Paddy's Day I'll pour some Bushmills, or Tullamore Dew to honor my heritage (not my taste, though). And, occasionally Scotch; LaFrog CS is the one I have on hand. I've been pouring from that bottle for 4-years or more.
dboland
I used to drink beer much more than anything else, and even that was rare. I preferred stouts and triples mostly. I started to have really bad reflux from beer about four or five years ago and stopped completely. Since then I have been drinking whiskey almost exclusively, mostly bourbon and rye. Wine has always been pretty binary for me and I never tasted the variation I felt I should. Other spirits like gin and rum are great but I don't find the same warmth and comfort in them like I do in bourbon and whiskey.
gopoohgo
Beer is my first love. Beer is my summer/hot weather love, although I have been cheating on beer with lower-end bourbons on the rocks lately.Drank more bourbon (love it neat) when it was cooler out. petrel800
As the weather gets hotter here in GA, I tend to drink less bourbon neat. I start to pull out Gin, Rum, Cocktails, Beer, and some of the lower proof bourbons.

All those limes I picked up at Costco just screamed daiquiri. It is going down quite nice on the hot Georgia afternoon.

kjbeggs
Primarily Bourbon, then Rye. Recently I've gotten into some Cognacs and Armagnacs. I like some non-peaty scotches, and some Irish whiskeys. The Japanese have some interesting offerings as well. Not a big Canadian whiskey fan though. I'll mix in the occasional Tequila or Rum. Not really into Gin either, but recently tried the Smooth Ambler Gin and Vodka. Both were interesting. Fine wine is wasted on me, and I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I love Revolver Blood & Honey, and some of Shiner's seasonal offerings.
