Straight Bourbon... & nothing else?

I primarily drink bourbon, either neat, with a little water, or a small cube. However, I also enjoy occasional cocktails, beer and rum. I don't drink as much beer as I used to, mainly because similar to Rich, it usually is more socially and then, I prefer draft. Occasionally, I will buy some specialty beer, especially when company is coming over. However, there seems to be a big push toward higher hop beers and ales which I do not like. Not much of a scotch fan (although I don't believe that I have tried the type that might be in my wheelhouse, still exploring) and even less of a wine fan.

I do like tequila and like to explore more. I am not a vodka fan. I prefer my spirits to provide the flavor rather than take on the flavor of what its mixed with.

besides other whiskies, like rye and Scotch, I drink beer (love IPA's), wine (California Cabs and Bordeaux blends mostly), gin (martinis) and tequila (margaritsa, sip)

I would like to say I am mostly a bourbon guy and for quality drinking I would say I am. But I do like to have a few drinks and I seem to usually go with Vodka and lemonade because I can get a family size vodka for $20. I think what I need to start looking for a family size bourbon for $20 and then I can loose the vodka. Or maybe I can get a raise and look at something more than the $20 family size.

Bourbon and rye are my majors. Rum is my minor. I pick up some extra courses here and there on single malts and tequila. I'm a wine fan, but I don't dive into that genre.

Strangely I have always hated beer. And no, it's not just because I haven't tried your favorite yet :)

Bourbon and Scotch - Really don't mix these often, straight or on the rocks.

Wine

Beer

Occasional cravings for a Rum & Coke, Gin & Tonic, Margarita.

As far as distilled spirits, I only drink bourbon at this stage of my life. I do supplement that with beer though. When fishing, working in the yard, or other times when in the sun for extended periods, beer is more satisfying to me. Probably 85/15.

I'm a bourbon guy. It's a flavor that just works for me. I can't stomach the taste of beer (makes me gag), only like sweeter and fortified wines, and apart from an occasional Southern Comfort, spiced rum, Baileys or Kahlua I don't do other spirits unless they're in cocktails. But I do enjoy branching out into Rye, flavored whiskeys (some I enjoy, others tend to remind me why I mostly drink bourbon) and my big go to when I don't want a bourbon is Canadian Whiskey.

Don't get me wrong, I love bourbon. I drink it a few nights a week. And rye, though aged rye has pretty much gone the way of the dodo at this point. You know what else I love? Scotch. Scotchity scotch scotch scotch. Malt whisky: one mashbill, unlimited possibilities. I've become enamored of mezcal of late too. A LOT going on there if you are willing to track it down. Aged Agricole rum is also my jam. I love wine, though it's too pricey for me to make it a hobby. From time to time a little brandy never hurt anyone either.

I'd give it all up for beer, but I must thank my lucky stars no one has strong-armed me into having to make that choice.

There was a time when I drank bourbon almost exclusively. Thank goodness those days are behind me ;)

I'm a bourbon guy, been one for 40+ years. That said, I like a peaty Scotch or a Redbreast now and again. I just love waking up on Saturday and Sunday morning of "The Open" and watching with a great scotch poured in the glass.

I've been a bourbon drinker for about 18 to 20 years, but the last 2 years I've been branching out to a few other thing. Rum, (specifically the SA Revelation Rum) and bourbon barrel stout beers. Love the chocolate and coffee flavors and the stout beer. It's good to try new things, but to me bourbon is KING.

Mainly bourbon and rye for me or rarely a cocktail containing them (Manhattan or Old Fashioned).

I will drink wine with a meal only, usually steak or pasta.

I will drink beer on a hot day or with certain foods: Mexican or wings. Like some others here, I am certainly not drinking as much beer as I did before.

I have been drinking less and less scotch. Usually would rather have a bourbon.

I can't stand tequila (bad college experience).

I have never drank rum neat but am thinking about trying it after reading some posts on this site.

While I like scotch, bourbon, and rye more or less equally, I drink less scotch mainly due to the price. Since the one sub-$25 blend I really liked, Black Bottle, changed the malts in the blend, I've been without a value scotch. At this point, my whiskey consumption is probably 60/40 American/foreign.

I mostly drink whiskey but will also drink wine and beer depending on my mood. As whiskey prices have increased over the last few years, like others here, I've discovered that some brandies offer a tremendous value but at this point I mostly have those as a change of pace.

I drink Bourbon (neat or in a cocktail) more often than not, but I definitely still enjoy a good Scotch, Irish, or Canadian whisky along with beer, wine, rum, and gin.

That's not unusual. I've never met anyone that could drink tequila after a bad experience in their youth. Fortunately that didn't happen to me.

Well, I would hate to disappoint! It is probably easier to note what I don't drink but where is the fun in that???

Vodka is the main thing I don't drink I suppose. You have to draw the line somewhere! Although I have some for guests and the rare cocktail that might call for it and have been known to try a bit now and again to confirm why I don't much care for it. OK, so I have about half a dozen different brands left over from back when I still thought it was still possible that it had any redeeming qualities. It is my lowest stock of any type of liquor. Heck I have about as much Taiwanese whisky as I have vodka.

That's about it. I have and drink pretty much everything else! While bourbon is the most common single thing I have, scotch isn't far behind (pretty much all styles. Smoke, peat, no peat, finishes of all descriptions. Rum and then rye probably run a close third and fourth. I suspect I have more variety of Irish whiskey than most Irish pubs in the US with about 38 at last count (plus poitin of course!). I do rather like variety and unusual things. There are about 15 different countries represented by whisky of some sort. I don't have a ton of Brandy but I do have a decent variety I think. Tequila, mescal, gin and genever are also pretty well represented.

Fortified wines like sherry, port and madeira are preferred and tend to outnumber the small number of wines I have as I am also not much of a wine drinker. Not that I will turn one down! I do rather like Alsace whites. Nothing like a spunky gewürztraminer!

And because I really began expanding my liquor cabinet initially due to my interest in cocktails starting some years ago I still have a fairly extensive selection of vermouths, aperitifs, digestives, amaros, bitters, vin de liqueurs, pastises and other assorted liqueurs that probably number well over 100 bottles. Many are quite enjoyable on their own. Nothing like a bit of Pineau des Charentes or a little V.E.P. to round off an evening!

Oh, and of course the occasional beer as well. Not really much of a hop head but I do like a big rich malty bottle conditioned beer that I can let sit on the shelf for awhile mostly because I don't have much choice. I tend to buy those faster than I drink them as well and have a couple of hundred different brands scattered around the house in various states of aging. Sadly now and again I encountered one that has gone a bit past its prime.

And did I mention the dozen or so Cream Liqueurs? I cut my teeth on a steady diet of Bailey's in high school and college and never really stopped. Unfortunately they have been ignored a bit lately and some of those are probably well past their prime. Might be cheese by now...

I used to drink a little tequila, and I'll occasionally drink (cheaper) vodka when I've got friends around (no one appreciates my bourbon, so I don't waste it). Outside of whiskey, though, the only other spirit I drink is gin, and I'm only beginning to get into it (had a fantastic gin called Half Hitch in London that I'm eagerly awaiting an import agreement on).

When I'm not drinking whiskey (90% bourbon), I'm drinking craft beer. In a lot of ways, I got into bourbon through my beer collecting. It's nice to rush out and buy a bottle of something you've been wanting to try, and not have to kill it in a night!

Bluecoat Gin from Philadelphia is a good one to try.

Started on bourbon and some rye. Scotch has surpassed rye as no.2, although I make more cocktails with rye. Spent most of the last fall and winter with Scotch. Spring and Summer is beer time down here, especially for outdoors (I spent last summer trying various canned craft beers - cans=outdoors to me) with an occasional rum and coke or fruity drink with rum.

The last 2-3 years I've tried various gins. I like a good martini while waiting to be seated at a restaurant. I had a Bluecoat martini at the Capital Grille in Philly and decided I needed to bring home a bottle.

Misc. Notes:

I had my best cigar/whiskey pairing with a rye.

For "serious" listening sessions, it's either bourbon or Scotch neat or with a couple drops of cold water.

I keep vodka on hand for the occasional Sunday morning Bloody Mary.

Saturdays during the fall when there's a slate of good college football games on I'll add brandy and 1 sugar packet to my morning coffee.

Canned beer for grillin' in spring and summer (not too much difference between spring and summer here).

A smokey Scotch for grillin' in cool/cold weather.

I've ordered Red Breast at bars, have a bottle along with some other Irish that I haven't opened yet.

Have one bottle of Yamazaki 12 I haven't opened yet.

For the most part I'm 90% bourbon and 10% everything else. Everything else is a pretty narrow range, too: maybe a beer or two on a weekend, kahlua (homemade) on a cold night, the occasional margarita or rum punch by the pool, sangria (also homemade) is a fun holiday beverage, wine with dinner, and that's pretty much it.

Straight bourbon is my first choice. After that, its bourbon barrel aged beers. For people who like bourbon and dislike beer, find a good bourbon barrel stout like Founders KBS or Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. Both are hard to find but anything along those lines may change your mind. Barrel aged barley wines are very good too.
