dcbt
This just seems...weird."Jim Beam Kentucky Dram is the latest creation from the Beam Suntory brand and is due for release in the coming weeks. Inspired by Jim Beam’s adventurous forefathers who travelled from Scotland, the new release is a fusion of premium bourbon infused with Highland Scotch whisky."http://www.thedrinksreport.com/news/2015/16083-a-bourbon-scotch-fusion-from-beam-suntory.html
WhiskyRI
Ah the joys of liquor conglomerates - when you own a lot of bourbon and a lot Japanese and Scotch Whisky - it only makes sense to mix them. I wonder how much grain whisky in addition to the Ardmore will be mixed in. I bet we can play along at home - pick up some Jim Beam and some Ardmore and vat until happy. squire
For me this falls in the 'sure, why not category' and my only objection is Limited Edition which usually means higher prices. Blended together in any proportion two ordinaries do not make an extraordinary.
Flyfish
I want to know where they're getting the "forefathers who travelled from Scotland". The Boehms came from Germany.
kjbeggs
Doesn't necessarily take a conglomerate to step outside the box. HighWest is doing this with Campfire.

smokinjoe
No need to fret over cost. Will only be available in Travel Retail/Duty Free. Just don't go anywhere and you won't be offended! From the statement by Beam-Suntory's Marketing Diector is the Big Idea that nearly every single business on the planet wants to do if they can: “Bourbon is growing at a phenomenal rate across the globe and with our retail partners we are committed to building the category, focusing on premiumisation enhancing the shopping experience and educating drinkers on bourbon’s heritage. “The launch of this product will provide not only something unique for consumers in travel retail, but also elevate bourbon by inviting consumers who already enjoy it to explore the category at a higher level.†As a whiskey enthusiast I absolutely love this continued proliferation, experimentation and "premiumisation" in the bourbon segment. It's an exciting time for bourbon geeks, and it's why I'm here on SB. I dig on this stuff! Keep it coming boys!
Flyfish
...educating drinkers on bourbon’s heritage.Considering that Beam (Scottish) vs. Boehm (German) part of the heritage, I am particularly looking forward to more education. Harry in WashDC
. . . It's an exciting time for bourbon geeks, and it's why I'm here on SB. I dig on this stuff! Keep it coming boys!I like it, too. It keeps some of the other enthusiasts chasing stuff I don't care about, thus leaving what I like alone. Except for maybe some FRSBBP's and, of course, GTS. amg
I think the fact that Macallan insists on labeling their Speyside malt as a Highland confuses these matters.
squire
The name "Highland" alone was a selling point a century or so back.

Kind of like squares and rectangles I suppose. All Speysides are Highland but not all Highlands are Speyside?
