.....

which do you prefer, OGD or WT?

I don't think I can pick a favorite, both are in my top 5 of best bang for your buck bourbons.

I had a long and busy day yesterday, so I'm kicking back today to make up for it. I'm having a nice pour of PHC Wheated along side my coffee this morning. :coffeedrinker:

A big salute to Will for the inspiration.

Cheers! Joe

Found a bottle of 6 yr age stated VOB on the bottom shelf of my garage bunker and it is great in my coffee this morning.

I haven't purchased any of the new 6, is the flavor profile being maintained?

Having my first sips of OGD 114 - god, what an awesomely unique flavour!
wow -> ogd 114 rules supreme!

Welcome to the cult. It works really well for vatting purposes as well. It will turn a mediocre 90 proofer into a nice 102 proof pour.

I can absolutely see how it can be great for vatting - adding punch, complexity, spiciness and interest. it's like a wt101 on steroids without the heavy oakyness but chocolate added in. Or the macho, rocker bro of Blanton's Gold.

Edit: After my 3rd pour: I think it's kinda the missing link between Bourbon, Rye and Single Malt.

I won't bore you all with how this combination came about, but I tried a blend that was probably about 45% VOS 19, 45% VOS 11 and 10% I.W. Harper. Seems quite delicious to me. Mature, but not oaky, a bit sweet, sort of a burnt corner of the brownie pan quality. And I mean that as a compliment.

Finished off my bottle of KC tonight so I guess I'll be searching for a replacement tomorrow. Cheers!

sampling my 2 new baby bottles of MMCS and Blanton's for the first time and I can see why they get so much love.

edit: revisiting the StaggJr:Bookers blend, so good. Might have to make this a regular thing through out the open bottles I have and 2 of each that I bunkered on my Indi trip.

edit2 since I still can: since I have been upping the proof all night I just poured some bookers and pulled out the stagg jr and KCSB for the on deck spots. The night is so warm I was kinda bummed I didn't have anything chilled in the fridge but at this point I don't care anymore.

edit3: how long can you edit here? 60 minutes? I am used to 30 mins or less. I really need to do a 3 way SbS as I can't decide which is better. I think that StaggJr:Bookers blend might be better than the 2 neat. it might have to replace BT:OGD114 as the 'fozzy blend'.

Stopped by one of my local stores this afternoon and saw they had some Old Ezra 101, only one bottle left. I opened it tonight, and it's one of the oakier iterations I've had of OE101, which is fine by me because I like the oak.

Three pours of 114 will make a believer out of most folks.

Truer words have rarely been spoken.

Started with BR, ended with MMCS. MMCS is simply Delicious.

good call, having some now

As am I.

Followed by some SAOS 10yr BP. The standard 10 yr doesn't do it for me, but this BP version hits the spot. Wasn't sure about it after the first pour, but since then it's been great. No clue where to get more of this so it's likely one and done. (I bought this bottle a long time ago so no chance to get more from the same barrel.)

Had a late birthday at Whiskey Cake restaurant on Saturday.

Got the last pour of their Willett Exploratory Cask bottle.

Found it a very nice, interesting pour, but not sure I would have paid $150 for a bottle.

Stopped by my favorite store afterwards for some tastings.

There were reps there for Mount Gay rum (bought a bottle of their XO and black barrel), and from Ron White's new Tequila line, who's name escapes me.

Not bad tequilas, but I did not feel the need to purchase any.

Also got to try a few things I had been curious about -

Straight Edge- OK, but I passed

Slaughterhouse- Better, bought one

Alberta Dark Batch Rye- Pretty good, will likely pick one up

John Oliver Rye- Not as good as the Alberta

Blonde Whiskey- left almost no impression
