Decided to break open an Elijah Craig 18 I've had stashed away for a while. And now I wish I hadn't. It's wonderful. It's not going to last.

Finishing up with a pour of SB.Com HHSS#2. An explosion of Creme brûlée, sweet wood and caramel. Just mind blowing whiskey. :yum:

Joe, you certainly make me wish I would have found out about SB long before I did. Sounds delicious.

Had pours of Blanton's store selection, and RHF last evening. As per usual, I enjoyed the RHF more, but the Blanton's was excellent as well. Sort of an A vs an A-.

We've been without power since 11:30 yesterday morning due to the crazy early season wind storm that blew through yesterday. Lost some tree limbs but luckily they all fell away from the house. We had concert tickets at a venue downtown last night, which never loses power, and it's a classy dinner venue so we went early since we had nothing else to do. This allowed me to relax with a WT101 at the bar before being seated, which was so welcome after the events of the day. For the after dinner pour, I was influenced by Joe's recent review of Blanton's, and sipped on it during the show. Elegant it surely is.

Had some Weller Centennial this morning, a bourbon with a good finish. Such sweetness make me think of Walter Payton.

Just some no frills BT tonight while making a pot of ragu. Going to finish the night off with a pour of Booker's (Dots batch). Very nice pour.

having a few Store Selected Eagle Rare pours this evening. What a great barrel. This is what Eagle Rare SHOULD taste like.

A small pour of Abraham Bowman high rye. My only issue with this bourbon is I should have bought two bottles.

Still without power here and we spent a good portion of the day cleaning up fallen branches and debris and inspecting the roof for damage while clearing it off. A local pub three blocks away got their power back so we went down there to charge up devices and get a burger. I was in no hurry to leave so I inspected the bourbon selection. Slim pickings. JBW, WT101, MM, and JD. The classic basics. I hadn't had Makers in a while so I went for that. Thinking about how Pappy provided the recipe and yeast for this made it taste better. Aside from that ,it was more pleasant than I thought it would be.

MM isn't a bad pour, and was my first real tasting of bourbon. I think people tend to forget it since it is stocked in practically every bar. Tonight started with FRYL, and now working on a vatting of FRYL:OGD114.

It was my go to for years until about 2 years ago when I went full bourbon geek. I put it by the wayside as my tastes evolved and I favor some high rye bourbons these days so I figured it would come off as too tame but I enjoyed the soft sweetness as a change of pace. It was good to revisit it.

Started the day over at my father in law's having a nice dinner with the family to celebrate my brother in law visiting from Australia. The bourbon drinkers in the group managed to kill his Maker's Mark and Old Grandad BIB throughout the evening. He pulled out some Masterson'a canadian rye but once my wife and I got home it was some 4R store picked OBSV as a final pour (well, maybe pour and a half  ) to wrap up the weekend.

FR GS OESO tonight, hitting the spot very nicely. Noticeably better from a basic whiskey glass than from a Glencairn. Showing more spice, menthol and smokiness than I remember from previous pours from this bottle, with nice mid-palate sweetness to balance it all out. In fact, good enough for a third pour!!!!

Had some Bowman Brothers earlier in the day while doing some yard work, then switched to a pour of Blanton's after dinner. For the nightcap, I went with a fairly healthy pour of MMCS. The MMCS had me thinking about another, but since I'm headed to Louisville for vacation later this week, I figured I should take it easy.

Sitting in the dark drinking WTRB and it's tasting reaaaaal good. Perhaps a sign that my recently fickle palate is back. One of my neighbors, frustrated by the lack of power, decides to drive around until he finds the utility guys to find out what's going on. He finds them! And what ensued was for me the funniest facebook thread in recent memory as he live reported the repair work along with a bonus tryst by a couple taking advantage of the dark conditions. Amazingly, just as he reported that one of the guys was at transformer flipping switches, our power comes back on. Here's one for social media. Time for a WTRB toast.
