Had a healthy pour of EC12 last night. It was hitting on all cylinders. It tasted delicious. I got up to do something and on my way back to my chair, I drank a small glass of water. When I tasted the EC12 again, it tasted different. It lost a lot of the flavors I was loving and there was a slight bitterness that wasn't present previously. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I was disappointed but then I poured some OGD114 and the world was right again.

Obviously the EC did not change. But your palate did. I think you washed away that coating of bourbony goodness. The bitterness was probably barrel tannins asserting themselves. Fortunately, the cure is to swish more EC (or OGD) around your mouth and do a little Kentucky chew.

Yep, once I have had a pour I don't drink anything but bourbon (or eat anything that isn't nailed down) until I stumble off to bed. :falling:

After several years of being on the fence whether to buy a bottle of Rock Hill Farms, I bought one several months ago. I don't regret it, at all. Not one that I reach for as an everyday, but it's enjoyable.

I grabbed one today at $5 over state min as a birthday present to myself and am sure I will enjoy it on Wednesday.

RHF is good bourbon. Took me a while to buy the first one but the tenth came quick...

I've now moved in to Blood Oath in the Blood Oath glass.

Lesson learned.

No more water.

Ever.

A pour of my own aged buffalo trace wheat mashbill in a 2l barrel. I let it sit in an old smoker I had outside for about a year. Mixed in a little OWA during the year just to make sure I had some left at the end. All said and done I ended up with a very dark wheated bourbon at about 125 proof. Fun little experiment.

Had small pours of Rock Hill Farms, Old Weller Antique, Wild Turkey Diamond Anniversary, and finishing up with ECBP 128 proof.

finished off a delicious Single Oak Barrel #179 and then went onto HMBIB and then a EWSB 2004. not feeling the EWSB as much as the other two I had tonight.

But how did it taste?

EC12 followed by ECBP. Each were very good in their own way. Not sure I would have liked it the other way around.

I've always found that going up in proof works better than going down as far as enjoyment is concerned.

Amen to that, just doesn't work at all going down, well at least for me.

I recommend starting at 90 - 100 proof then working up in proofs til you can't even stumble to bed, that's what I usually do. :falling:

sipping on some regular FRYL and I'm amazed one more time how good it actually is!

I'll follow it with some WT101 /Fozzy Blend/ Blanton's Gold

Great follower of the up principle myself.

Agreed. If for some reason I can't help myself and start with a barrel proofer, I'll stick with barrel proofers the rest of the evening.

Finishing tonight's pours with the old fave ECBP - what a flavour bomb that is, but if there's one aroma that stands out to me then that would be hazelnut.
