I spent two nights in northwest Indiana for two reasons: to visit a good friend I haven't seen in a while and to pick up bourbon I can't find here and/or bourbon for cheaper than in MI. The ones I was hoping to find that are not available here are Larceny, HH6/BIB and VOB. Unfortunately I could only find the Larceny but I found lots of other stuff cheaper and way cheaper than what I can buy it for here so I literally filled up my trunk. Sales tax in MI is 6% and it's 7% in IN so I am just going to ignore that in the price recap/comparison below.

(1) I forgot to check BT prices from my phone and thought it was 28 or 30 here so 10 of those was probably not the smartest move but I love it so I am not too bothered by the oopsie.

(2) The KCSB is N/A in 1L here but the .75L are $48 so I divided by 3 and multiplied by 4 to estimate what it might cost in a Liter bottle here.

(3) The JBBIBis N/A in 1L here but the .75L are $25 so I divided by 3 and multiplied by 4 to estimate what it might cost in a Liter bottle here.

(4) Stagg Jr is State Min of $50 here but the only time I saw it on the shelf it was $70 so I bought one of each batch I saw since who knows when I might see it up here ever again for proper state min price and I used that value instead of state min like I did for the others.

(5) Larceny is not available here at all so it is not included in the Tot $ IN row's cell.

(6) I didn't count the Larceny in the difference but I would guess if it were those handles would be 45 - 55 or more up here based on the difference in price I saw for things like BT and 1792.

In hindsight I probably should have bought half as many BT and bought heavier on the sale items like KCSB/SmB, JBBIB, Bookers and MM/MM46 but I won't lament over it much as plain BT is one of my faves and the savings/difference not counting the Larceny still paid for hotel, gas, food and then some for the 3 day trip. This + my previous bunker should last me a very long time (a year if I were to drink a bottle a week, which I don't think I do) and when it eventually starts getting low I expect to do something similar but I may go somewhere closer like Angola or Southbend so I can just do a day trip and not have the hotel expenses.

Notice the bookers there for $35 and down the main bourbon aisle they had some at 50+ but I am not sure if it was maybe some different batch/proof but I obv bought the sale bottles:

Bunkering process:

I ran out of room in the trunk with the full size spare (so I didn't have to deal with the donut if I got a flat) so not pictured here is the last box in my back seat.

Top shelf + 4 handles of Larceny is all the new stuff I brought home. The 2 boxes on the lower shelf are the previous bunker of 13 closed bottles.

KCSB for $22 is pretty awesome, I would have loaded up on that. Also, even though I have spare Booker's bunkered already, I could not have resisted buying a bunch more at $35. I also would have bought all the ECBP they had at $65. I might also have grabbed one of those supertankers of OGD BIB for $34. I guess my trunk would have come home full too.

I don't think you will regret all that BT. Good price and consistently good bourbon in IMHO.

Finally, I enjoy the inadvertent self-portrait in the third close up picture of the Stagg Jr.

Ha, didn't notice the portrait. I was a bit overwhelmed by the prices and should have thought about a few of the picks a bit more in hindsight but it's all good. Stagg Jr, Booker's and Baker's (this was only $10 cheaper than here) I have never had (as they are so expensive here) so I didn't go crazy with them but in hindsight I should have bought every Booker's they had as that is nearly half the price up here. I meant to go back to the first store to grab more of the '04 EWSB but kinda forgot after going silly with the BT at another of their stores. I did see '06 (and maybe '05 too) at a different store but I haven't opened those I already have yet.

I carried up a new BT and Larceny to crack open tonight. I am afraid of putting that handle on my upstairs shelf so it will stay on the counter top I think.

I think I am going to email the owner of this store (and another chain I found that is closer to me in Angola, IN) and see if they have some sort of flyer they put together when they do sales like that on their bourbons.

Yes, they are a bit bowed from when I had way too much ammo after sandy hook. I think I need to replace those particle board shelves with some hardwood. I think I might go downstairs and put everything down on the floor until that can be done.

Yes, bourbon is also not the first thing I have semi-compulsively hoarded either. :cool:

You don't have earthquakes out there do you? That is what I worry about when it comes to bottles on shelves. My liquor cabinet has doors and is bolted to the wall (unlike many other heavy objects in my house, that, let's face it, I don't care as much about).

There was a small one on the west side of the state this year but I can't recall ever having one over hear you could feel. I am more worried about someone bumping the bottles and knocking them off the shelf since there are lots of other things on shelves nearby so they stay in boxes on the shelves. I am going to go get 2 plywood or hardwood shelves to replace those particle board ones on those 2 shelves tomorrow.

I know. I knew it was going to be cheaper but I couldn't believe some of the normal shelf prices, let alone those sale prices. In general almost everything was 5 to 10 a bottle cheaper than here so if you have business there or are willing to pay the gas and make a run down there to load up your trunk it is definitely worth it IMO. Not sure where in Mid MI you are but the place I want to get in touch with to check out for my next IN trip late this year or early next year is this place is a chain store in Angola, IN that appears to have a decent selection based on their site images and it is only about half the distance of Hammond. I plan to get in touch with them to ask them prices on some things to make sure they price similarly to the stores I went to in Hammond since it is only about 160 miles each way to Angola so I could hit a few of their stores and drive back home the same day.

I'm in indy right now and the prices are blowing my mind. It was real hard not to buy a case of HHBIB6 at frickin' 10.99. Alas there's only so much space in my checked bag.

Yeah, I am blown away by the KCSB, KC Rye and Booker prices. The Larceny handle isn't much more than a 750 ml in Indy.

Wow, that purchase is worthy of a full-length film! Or at least an HBO mini series. So many great prices... that Laphroaig at 25 bucks is unreal. And the 4rSB at $35...... I'm going back to look at the pics again.

Yes, I wanted to grab some 4RSmB and SB but I spent so much on the other stuff, and have one of each bunkered, that I decided to pass. I was considering stopping to get a bottle or two of each on my last day but I woke up really early and decided to just hit the freeway instead of waiting for them to open.

There was a small one on the west side of the state this year but I can't recall ever having one over hear you could feel. I have never seen Booker's for less than $50, let alone under $40. That and the KCSB really blow me away.

Maybe a level-headed politician in Michigan will someday work to do away with the crazy minimums.

Those are some great prices, I would have snagged that CEHT BP for sure...Never seen one for $64.99, pretty hard to find period, but great stuff.
