RWBadley
My local has both, I always end up with the 114. Anybody find they prefer the 100 for whatever reason? Same profile? The 100 is about $4 cheaper, is that enough reason to try it?Cheers,RW
unclebunk
The BIB is very good and well worth buying but for my money, I'd spend the extra $4 and go with the 114 every time. I find it richer and having better "mouth-feel" than the BIB, though I'm happy as a clam to drink either one.
Merrymash Monk
I like them both but they are different. Overall I prefer the BIB because it is a little lighter and to my palate more balanced. It is also more versatile for mixing. One of the best values out there. I wouldn't hesitate to try it.
fozzy71
I like having them both around for different reasons. The BIB often ends up in the fridge for those warmer days and the 114 stays in the cabinet for neat pours or for vatting. Currently almost out of both but I have so much other stuff in the bunker I probably won't be buying either anytime soon unless I go out of town and need a 200 or 375 bottle when staying away from home. GaryT
I've only bought 200s or 375s of the BIB; I'm a sucker for variety, but for $4 difference - I'd be with the OGD114 all day long.
squire
My first response is of course we can have both but I suppose the real difference is 114 is for me and BIB is for company who are used to 80 proof stuff. That and the BIB occasionally goes on sale whereas the 114 rarely ever does.
drunkenjayhawk
A some stores near me the bib is available in 1L bottles for 20 and the 114 in 750's for 25. Just depends on what I want to do with it. I personally like both. Basil Hayden is just what exactly? 86 proof and 8 years old OGD? I haven't bought one yet, I just go with BIB and the 114. Is there any reason to buy Haydens - any fans? Is there any reason to buy Haydens - any fans?Basil Hayden is only 80 proof and is no longer age stated, so there's very little reason to pay such a high price for it. It does taste maybe a bit "older" than the BIBs, but it's so watered down. If they bumped it to even 90 proof I think it would be great.
Merrymash Monk
Yes but with BH you get that fancy bottle with the copper ring around it.
JvW
There is quite a bit of OGD talk here, so I had to picked up a 114 bottle today and yes I understand...great Bourbon for $24.
TunnelTiger
If I could have one it would be 114 but since I'm not in that position I always have both for most of the reasons other posters have mentioned. Both are truly great bourbons but I really don't think we need to notify the rest of the world of that so can we lock and delete this thread? squire
Yes, we wouldn't want 114 to become the poster boy for good Bourbon at a good price now would we.
smokinjoe
Simple answer. You don't.
ThirstyinOhio
I choose OGD BIB simply because I have no choice here in Ohio. I always make sure to stock up when out of state when I see OGD 114. Its a great bourbon with or without price consideration.
jp_stargazer
I remember seeing all the love for OGD 114 here, so when I finally found a store that carried it, I bought one. The first time I tried it, I thought my taste buds were broken since I didn't care for it. I couldn't understand how it was held in such high regard. Reading this forum more, many mentioned that it needed air (some even saying they leave the cork out of a new bottle overnight). So I left it open for a time, corked it, then put it back on the shelf. When I revisited it days (weeks?) later, it was delicious. Weird but true, based on my experience. As for Basil Hayden's, I enjoy it for its subtlety (must be the right combination of age and lower proof). If I know someone who enjoys Scotch/Irish whisk(e)y and is looking to get into bourbon, BH is a recommendation I make. Maybe I should tell them to stick to Scotch/Irish whisk(e)y and stay away from my bourbon! Jason
squire
I believe Scotch drinkers were the market Beam had in mind. The only negative I have about Basil Hayden is the price.
JDSmith619
BH is what brought my wife into bourbon, for that I will always be thankful. Although we havent bought a bottle in a few years as she drinks everything now.

Harry in WashDC
I'm lazy. I keep old OGD BIB bottles with the orange top filled with new OGD BIB so I can find them on the shelf without picking up the "wrong" bottles. I also keep 114 around. I can drink my fair share of BIB neat, but too much 114 without water or a small cube is bad for me. Again, being lazy, when I'm likely to have more than one, I pick BIB so I don't have to (a) not get a refill, ( find some water or ice then measure.
