We will be on the road next week,2 days in Asheville, and then on to Atlanta, I believe Dunwoody north of town. I have mostly beer related plans for Asheville, but always interested in a decent place for whiskey too. Anywhere for bottles and/or pours north Atlanta area? We are there for my step son's engagement dinner/official announcement so I will be bringing some quality pours with me, but selected bottlings/pours always of interest. Both of us have ties to Georgia, so this location is very fitting.

The best whiskey bar in town just changed hands and not so sure if it is being kept at its previous level. I have never personally been there, but everyone told me it was good. I will do some checking to see what the new name is and get back to you.

As for beer, there is plenty to go around here locally. Tons of smaller breweries and taprooms around the downtown area. If you are willing to travel a little south of town, Sierra Nevada has just built an amazing facility with a awesome taproom with great food and beer selections. Let me know if any of these interest you and I can get you directions.

I live in Dunwoody, not much in the way of bourbon bars around Dunwoody.

There are a few of the chain steakhouses around Perimeter Mall (Flemmings, Capital Grille, . . .) that will likely have a decent selection. Joey D's has a pretty cool bar, but I think the food sucks personally. Most of what is in that area is going to be your chain type stuff.

If you venture out, Local 3, H Harper Station, and Table and Main all boast about their bourbon selection. Uber to Local 3 and Table and Main from Dunwoody would likely not cost you much. H Harper is probably a Marta proposition unless you are going to split the cost of the Uber or drive. In my opinion, be aware of your surroundings in that area of town by H Harper if you go, it's a transitional neighborhood and crime can be a problem in that area. To be fair, I haven't been to any of these restaurants in over a year, have a newborn and quite frankly, I don't have much need to go to a bar with the home selection these days. Food is decent in all 3 as is the ambiance.

Buckhead will give you some additional options, Chops is a great steakhouse and typically has a nice selection. Ubering to Buckhead from Dunwoody is pretty decent.

As for shops, Tower and Greens are the 2 big ones and typically have a few private selections in, both are relatively close to Dunwoody. Jat at Dekalb Bottle House is a great guy and comes to GBS get togethers and has a few private selections in currently. SB's TANSTAAFL2 has helped with several of the selections. There is a place in Roswell that does a lot of Private Selections (Roswell Beverage), but I haven't really found them to be all that great to me personally, I kind of feel like their strategy has always been quantity over quality. Others may disagree and may be able to give insight on what they have currently.

Decatur Package Store, which is a couple miles down the road from Dekalb Bottle House tends to have good selections. My preferred shop.

I find that their selections usually lean towards a higher spice/mint/rye character and usually right in my wheelhouse. Not sure what they have at the moment, but whatever it is its going to be from a great barrel.

There are several restaurants on Canton St in Roswell with great bourbon selections. Little Alley Steak and Osteria both have great selections. Table and Main also has a few solid options.

In Asheville, check out Red Stag Grill at the Bohemian hotel. Solid selection of bourbon. When in Dunwoody, visit Roswell and check out Little Alley Steak or Osteria. Both have good food and excellent bourbon.

Mac McGee's in Decatur has always had a pretty broad selection of all types of whiskey although no one category is really dominant. There is a second location in Roswell I think but have never been there myself. Not sure how far a drive that is from Dunwoody.
