rcs86
Hey everyone! My Godmother has moved out of her house and is in assisted living so we are clearing it out for her. Last night I found a bottle of Beam 8 year. As many of you are more "seasoned" than me, I would love any info you all can give me on the bottle! As you can see, it was distilled 1963 and bottled in 1971. I'm pretty excited about it, as I never knew my Godfather cared about bourbon at all and this is something of his I can keep. I'm interested if anyone knows what the stand is exactly and/or info on the handle on the bottle. Thanks!

jsrudd
The decanter is known as the "atomic star" or "atomic starburst" decanter. The decanter itself is actually Pyrex and is therefore resistant to heat. If you google "Jim Beam Atomic Starburst" you will get some results that are mostly people selling the empty decanters.I don't know anything about the bourbon inside other than what appears on the tax stamp. It's something I will always keep sitting around!I did try a small taste last night... Wasn't too bad.
Harry in WashDC
Have you compared it to the current JB "8 Double Aged"?
jsrudd
Have you compared it to the current JB "8 Double Aged"?And does it have the Jim Beam funk? Thanks a lot! I will google it and check it out. Definitely didn't care about the value, just wanted a little history. It's something I will always keep sitting around!I was browsing an antique store this weekend and saw a very similar decanter from the same era. The handle was almost exacting the same. Seems like this kind of styling is rather representative of the era.
