Howdy all. What are your thoughts on Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit? At the time a I came across this bottle at the store I didn't know where it fit in the lineup of Wild Turkey so I grabbed something else instead. If you have had this before, what are your impressions?

In general, I think WT has entered a sweet zone in their releases. Recent barrel selections, as well as off the shelf WT's seem to be garnering a fair amount of love. Since the WTKS is selected for a better profile, and if this a recent bottle (this gets tricky, as the WT timeline has had its share of peaks and valleys), I would suspect it is a nice whiskey. Unfortunately, I typically pass on it due to its price, which I seem to see at north of $50. However, it's a great looking package that looks great on the bar...(I like, and will pay for those things :D). If the bottle has a pewter top...let no man get in your way of snaring it...

I have 2 unopened bottles, I am thinking if I drink them by Thanksgiving they would make nice vases for the table.

I picked up a bottle of this a couple months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Granted I do like the 101, but this KS was a major step up and was easily worth the not insignificant price bump.

Good to know. I have been on the fence about this bottling. I love WT101, and Russel's Reserve Single Barrel (store select), as well as WTRB. So I may have to grab this. The only turn off is the price $45-50 in Minneapolis. I would definitely buy at $35-40.

I'd go with it and then use the empty to decant 101, RR or RB. KS is smoother than any of those, but I find the profile a little 'too smooth' for my palate...

I have an older KS (I think it is from 2006 or something). Personally I find it drier and oakier than regular/younger WT. Overall I prefer WTRB, especially at the respective prices. I would also choose RR10 over KS. But KS is still very good bourbon and I can see why some might prefer it to other WT expressions.

I've gotten a couple recently that were really good. They just had more of the Wild Turkey profile to it if that makes sense. A year or two ago they didn't hit me as being worth it but lately like the 101 they seem to have gotten better. Not quite like 15-20 years ago good but I'll take it

I have noticed the exact same thing, VG. I don't know what has changed over there, but they are back in a pretty good groove after a few years of less than stellar whiskey. Agree too with maybe not as good as the golden years, but still really good. I'm very glad to see Turkey producing very good whiskey again!

If I remember correctly, the price would be $39.99.

I just really appreciate the WT101 more and the WTRB a whole lot more not even taking into consideration the price difference.

Guess I'm going to have to pick up a bottle. I have the 108 proof Rare Breed which i think is a very nice pour, haven't tasted the 112 yet. In your opinion, is the Ky Spirit worth the extra $$?

I like WTKS and I think it is a step above WTRB or WT101. However, the difference is subtle. I think WTKS is a little drier and sweeter than WTRB. I enjoy it but the price drives me to the other WT products which I also enjoy. It is normally in the mid to upper $40 price range in Indy. Occasionally, I have seen WTKS in the mid $30 to low $40 price range. That is the time to buy.

WTKS is a fine pour, I like it a lot. Hard to say if it's worth the upcharge. During my distillery visit I tasted is sbsbs with Rare Breed and RR Single Barrel. I actually liked KS the best.

I'm a big fan of WT101 and KS is supposed to be the best barrels of 101 left to age longer and then bottled as a single barrel. Really good stuff. Hard to justify it at more than twice the price so I don't see it ever becoming a regular for with Rare Breed being what it is. I'll still buy one from time to time though.

I had a bottle of WTKS from '04 that was fantastic whiskey. A more recent bottle of RB ('13, I think) has kept me away from buying any WT for a while. It's thin and mostly tastes of alcohol. Good to hear the Turkey is making a comeback. I may have to give WTKS another go soon.

I've been a fan of Kentucky Spirit for many years but haven't purchased a recent bottle. For me it has a good core of flavors that express WT quite well. I know it may be emotional and subjective, but for some reason this expression reminds me of my visit to WT many years ago. Something about the nose and flavor. Not sure I can explain it.

The last taste of it I had, nothing much came through but alcohol burn, sourness and acetone. Virtually nothing about it appealed to me. The bottle of RRSiB collecting dust on my shelf tastes much the same, so I don't know whether this is a bad run of WT or whether they nailed their flavor profile exactly. I can say I've never tasted a WT product I'd buy again, so I may not be the best judge.

I've been wanting to try this for a while, and I was at my local store when I saw it on the shelves. This was a recent "light top" bottling but I figured I gotta try it at least once to see if it's worth the $17 bump ($54 vs $37 in Atlanta) over Rare Breed. My opinion was that it was okay but not worth it and it had a strange aftertaste. I'll stick with RB from now on but i'm glad I got to try it and the cool bottle doesn't hurt.

I would take WTRB over WTKS any day in the week, cheaper and I like the taste better.
