Got a buddy who's visiting family in Colorado Springs.

Any place I should send him hunting?

Well, he ended up grabbing bottles of 291 Colorado bourbon

and something called Axe and the Oak.

Well those should be, umm, interesting. Both are supposedly local Colorado Springs small distilleries making very young whiskey probably in small barrels. Maybe one or both will be a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't count on it but you never know!

I know nothing about what is available in Colorado Springs but I would have said make the effort to go up the road to Denver if at all possible. Although not sure if they would find anything more interesting up there unless you were looking for something not available to you locally. Davidson's on the south side of Denver is only about an hour north of CO and as I recall had a decent selection.

He told me the 291 was "pretty special", but he's also the guy who told me how great Willett Pot Still Reserve was (I do not care for it).

I read up on it a bit, and I'm not expecting greatness, but hoping for a pleasant surprise...

A review of the 291 Colorado whiskey from a fellow SBer.
