fozzy, what would you prefer this to be called assuming it becomes VOTM: fozzy Blend, Fozzy Blend, BT/OGD114, OGDBT102, ....?

I really have no preference and would really be surprised if I was in fact the first to ever vat these two, maybe I just the first, or most recent, on this board to post about vatting it.

Okay, then, anyone who wants to cast a vote about what to call the vatting of OGD 114 and BT, please do so.

FWIW, while it would be neat if my name was associated with it I don't really care. And even though it isn't 114 proof once vatted, for making the abbreviation of it shorter I like whoever earlier called it BT114.

and after this discussion, I expect this will be the first thing I pour later tonight lol.

Why not go with Fozzy's BT114?

Hell yes, this is our forum and we should give recognition to whomever, is the creator, of the vatting of the Month!

If we are going to do this, is somebody going to tell me what proportions are the starting point? I'd hate to say, "I really like the Fozzy Compote BT114 50/50" only to find out we are all doing a BT 60/114 40. And, I'm retired, plus it is after 5PM here so I can't make up my own mind.

EDIT - Also, I thought the first "Vatting of the Month" "for September 2015" was going to be SB Blend variations. Does anybody out there know where I've been for the last week or so? I sure don't.

50/50 (aka 1:1) is where I started and what I seem to prefer so far but more testing is needed. I have a large decanter at 1:1 and tried 3:2 in each direction and didn't notice any major difference so next time I mix a couple small bottles for SbS it will be at 3:1 in each direction.

Harry, please weigh in on the SB Blend thread (VOTM #1)--it needs more posts!

BBB - Many thanks for this. I've been lost in a wilderness of my own making. Now, if I can just remember, when the sun is out, to click that link Fozzy gave us . . .

hahaha, honored to be considered of some small service. Really hoping I remember to post the next VOTM on time, as I feel a bit like Hansel myself! (The German boy who got lost in the woods and almost eaten, not the Malt Advocate guy--although having tried to navigate so many bottles I suspect Hansell has also felt a lot like Hansel at times)

Just a note to mention VOTM #2 has been posted a little early. Went with Fozzy's BT/114 Blend, including the slash to make clear the overall proof is not 114 but rather that this is a vatting incorporating a 114 proof bourbon.

  • 1 month later...

My vote for the next, or any future, one is StaggJr:BT. I am really enjoying whats left of this 2nd 200ml I mixed of Batch2:BT at 1:3.

I'll second that. It's been a favorite of mine for about 2 years now.

I wouldn't mind seeing a turkey concoction next month. RR10/90 and WT101 mixed 1:1 is a favorite of mine

Fascinating. I haven't experimented with any Turkey vattings. New possibilities are suddenly on my radar.

RR10/90 has been my favorite since I got into bourbon. I have heard great things about the RR10/101; the SB blend which was originally created to recreate Weller centennial got me thinking. RR10/90 vatted with WT101 gets it around 8+ years and 95+ proof which is in the ballpark of 10/101. It may not be anywhere close to RR10/101, but, I have to work with what I got/can get. Maybe some of you that have been around longer and have a far superior pallet can create a better vatting to recreate RR10/101. I would love to try any suggestions...also, I'm still hoping I find my unicorns in the wild...

I've thought about doing something like this with WT 101 and RR10/90, but also using the RR single barrel which is NCF and 110 proof. You could maybe try the RR10/90 with WT 101, and some percentage of RRSB to beef things up a bit.
