tanstaafl2
Just making sure people don't think this is current! Happened over a decade ago.

The Black Tot
It did take another decade for broadcasting standards to deteriorate to the point where a term like "Firenado" would be considered news reporting...

fishnbowljoe
I'm awake! The weather channel was wrong. Special circumstances be damned. An evening cookout with some good friends, and a nice fire in the fire pit will work too. These photos are from 2007. Sorry if I may have posted them before. Cheers! fishnbowljoe
Firenados shouldn't be confused with other related phenomenon like smokenados, steamnados or snownados. To be honest, I'm really not quite sure which of those the following pic is of. :skep: Not me in the pic, but some of you folks that have been members here for a while might agree that it bears a strong resemblance to another member here. Winter Wonderland?????? Cheers! Joe Edited September 5, 2015 by fishnbowljoe
fishnbowljoe
Here's a pic of a firenado captured in a bottle of MM! Make mine a double! Cheers! Joe Edited September 5, 2015 by fishnbowljoe
CorvallisCracker
That's way too high. Time to visit a proctologist.Which reminds of a proctologist joke. Also, I note that whatever spell checker is in play here does not recognize the word "proctologist". fishnbowljoe
It's been my experience that trying to create a firenado (un-scientifically) can be met with failure. :frown: The results can still be fun and interesting though. :skep: Below are a few pics from a get together at a friends house a few years ago. A few of us had gone fishing up in Canada, and we brought back a bunch of walleyes. A 4th of July fish fry was arranged at one of my friends house. He told us to bring something to burn in the bonfire, and also to bring any fireworks we might have. He lives out in the country a bit, and his neighbor was a cop, so all was good. The pics are just fair, so you might need to use your imagination just a little. FWIW, we found out that bowling balls don't blow up or burn too good. They kinda half assed melt. It was still smoldering the next morning. We had another 4th of July fish fry and fireworks extravaganza the next year. I was asked not to bring a bowling ball that time. :slappin: Cheers! fishnbowljoe
Sometimes firenados can be harmful. Ouch that hurts. This guy must have had some of Ox's and Thad's "Smoked, Super Supreme, Extra Hot, Fireball Pork Butt" Pork Butt. fishnbowljoe
The various types of "nados" shouldn't be confused with dust devils/whirling dervish's. My wife and I were on vacation out west in 2012. While in Wyoming, we saw a good sized dust devil. Alas, we couldn't get a picture of it, but it was very similar to the one pictured below. We weren't quite this close though. p_elliott
Just seems like yesterday. The various types of "nados" shouldn't be confused with dust devils/whirling dervish's. fishnbowljoe
And let's not forget water spouts. Water spouts are the water borne versions of 'nados. I personally have never seen one, but my father in-law has. I was on a fishing trip up in Wisconsin with my FIL one time. It was a beautiful day. We were having a good time, and catching some fish. While taking our lunch break, my FIL related a story about the last time he was on that lake. He and a friend were fishing there, and it started to get cloudy. It didn't look all that bad, so they kept fishing. Then towards the far end of the lake, they spotted something weird. It turned out to be a water spout, and it was headed their way. They got their lines in, and were getting ready to haul ass, when just as suddenly as it appeared, the water spout vanished. He said they caught a bunch of fish after that though. Goes to prove ya' just never know. Water spouts aren't all that uncommon on big lakes like Lake Michigan, but are much rarer on smaller inland lakes. Fish On! fishnbowljoe
Not to be confused with water spouts, are geysers. Below is a pic of Old Faithful geyser at Yellowstone National Park. It was an overcast and windy day when we were there. Not ideal for pictures, but still impressive nonetheless. "Thar She Blows!!! Joe
