Knob Creek (Standard) gotten better?

Last time I had regular KC (not KCSB) I thought it was too woody. That was about 3 years ago. I had some this week, and wow it was really good. Not too woody at all. Very much like a liquid peanut candy bar..with a hint of orange.

Do you think it has improved recently?

This seems to come up from time to time, but IMO it's just us (meaning our palate's change).

Sure, there will be subtle variations, but for the most part I feel that Beam does a really good job at hitting their profile marks.

I found kc to be a bit oakey, woody, but not bad overall. Probably not something I would regularly keep on hand.

I know that individual palates differ, but I'm surprised to read two comments mentioning that KCSB is too woody. I'm not questioning the opinions, it's just that I've become very sensitive to oak in that past year or so and KCSB remains one of my favorites and one that I don't get much oak from. Everyone's different!

My guess is that YOU'VE changed in your approach and/or perception of what you're tasting/sniffing.

I haven't noticed any trend in KC, in either direction, over the last several years. Variability: YES. Trend: NO.

I've gone back and forth with Knob Creek over the years. I've always liked it, very good balance, fully aged and proofed, it's just that at times I like it more than at others.

I'm one of the minority that really enjoys the oak taste but the KCSB is sooooooo much better (IMO) I don't even consider picking up a std bottle.

I think KC will be the next bourbon I buy. It was one of my favorites a decade ago, but I haven't had it for a long time.

I don't think you'll be disappointed, Tim. However, if you can spare a few extra shekels, I'd say spring for the 120 proof single barrel version if it is available to you. I've been digging the heck out of it since finding a great deal on it not long ago. Very nice indeed and worth the extra money in my book. Enjoy either way!

both KC and KCSB are great and not all that expensive. I can't say if it's gotten better since I've only started drinking a couple years ago, but that KCSB is a mighty fine pour. had it last night with a splash of water

I prefer KC standard over the SB version. I find it easier to pour a glass of KC more often than the SB stuff (which is great beyond reproach IMHO, but like Booker's, something I have to be in the mood for.)

I doubt that that is available in my ABC state, but I will look. Thanks for the tip.

My bottle of KC is probably two years old. I don't drink very fast. :D But, I'll tell you that I have a bottle of Jim Beam BIB that tastes like liquid peanut brittle. The peanut thing seems fairly new. I don't notice it at all in the bottle of KC I have, but my JB BIB has it by the carload. Sounds like current KC bottlings have it as well, which means it will possibly have this note for several years. KC is bottled at 9 years old, and JB BIB has to be a minimum of 4. That's a lotta latitude...

I've tried 4 bottles of it and didn't like it very much...I'm getting too much of an alcohol smell/taste even when I let it sit. But the KCSB is outstanding!

I prefer BT and EWB over the regular KC, But that's just me!!! I still like JB products from top to bottom, Even Devils Cut is not too bad!
