Jefferson's Very Old Very Small Batch. Quality whiskey. An enjoyable pour while relaxing with my father and discussing his memories of WWII in the Pacific. It is incredible how much the world has changed during his lifetime.

Had my first (and second) ETL ever last night. It was just "meh" to me though. My only lasting impression was "So this is what people are obsessively clearing the shelves of?"

Not even sure I'd use it in the bourbon cream recipe I wanted to try...

A small pour of GBS KC120. Tried it neat first then with a little water, then more water. I don't usually add water but this one takes it very nicely, an enjoyable pour. This one will be great over the coming winter.

Like anything when it gets over-hyped and what-not, if someone chased ETL for a year and then stumbled upon a bottle, they'd probably be let down a little. If someone paid $50 and up for a bottle, they'd probably be let down a little. Not saying those apply to you, but just pointing that out.

I hear what you're saying... didn't chase it, and paid retail for it ($32, I think...too lazy to check the OLCC website.) Grabbed one the last time it came around because I wanted to try it. Don't see myself getting another right now. Just such a stark comparison to the SB Blend I had the night before. That makes trying to track down OWA and W12 worth it.

Gonna give it another chance, but thinking about cracking an RHF I got over the summer for a little side-by-side, too.

That's a good call. RHF is definitely one of my desert island bourbons. RHF can be a bit hard to wrap your head around, as there is a lot going on. But it is outstanding stuff IMO. Perhaps I'll have a pour tonight--cheers.

Especially if it is something that is allocated or difficult to find.

ETL is a single barrel. I have had some really great bottles and some that were meh. The best I had was the ETL commemorative from a few years ago. Of course, the bump in proof probably helped some.

I am very much enjoying a three way blend of Stagg Jr 132.1, KCSBR 120 Liquor Barn 10.5 year and ECBP 134.8. 2 ounces of Stagg Jr and 1 ounce of the other two. :yum: This has met all my expectations.

Had some friends over for dinner. Started with some W12 and then moved on to some OFBB and finished with some HWRR.

Opened my first Stagg Jr. tonight. Wow. Never tried it before, this stuff is pretty tasty.

Decided to make tonight a Turkey night. Started with RR10 and the palate wasn't liking it at first. Halfway through the pour, it's as if the whiskey overcame whatever it was that was getting in the way of enjoying that pour. Last few sips were excellent.

Moved on to WT101 12yr. First opened this bottle last weekend and it started out too woody - bitter and tannic - with a moment or two of brilliance trying to slip through. Tonight it's much different. The wood is there still in a pleasant way and it's getting closer to being balanced, though not there yet. Maybe the third pour will be the proverbial charm.

Had a couple of pours of the CEHT barrel proof (129). Good stuff...I poured 'em over a big cube and enjoyed it. A little hot neat.

Stagg Jr #3 on a few ice chips. Huge bittersweet chocolate, brown sugar and cola with vanilla extract on the finish - as with most of my bottles of this, it's gotten better the longer bottle has been open. I'm sticking previous assessments though - this is so dense and monolithic that it's not a bourbon I would grab 4 times in one night. Pretty darned tasty as a single pour in an evening where few things went as originally planned though.

I stopped by a friend's place last night and tried a few things. Had a nice time but it was cold out and the fire wasn't ideal for me to be able to taste much.

I switched over to scotch at the end and tried some of his Gordon & Macphail. It was the most unpleasant whiskey I have ever tried, and not recommended after a 4RSB. It had a finish that tasted like Listareine. Mouth wash. I switched to AE after and it suddenly had a heavy peat taste.

Mental note: never switch from scotch to bourbon

Tonight enjoying some of this, Old Grand-Dad (114 Proof), very tasty and very smooth for the proof. This one to me is quite a few notches up from the regular Old Grand-Dad.
