Had a nice second to last pour from a 4RPS OESQ. The Q's are not my top choice in 4R recipes as others have a distinctive note that I like and seek out over what the Q gives me. That said this was a very fine bottle and the very best example I have had of a straight down the middle bourbon 101 as it exhibits classic vanilla, caramel...just amped up at barrel proof. One more pour and this one goes into the history books both in terms of contents as this particular barrel is long gone and replacement cost.

A nice glass of Old Blowhard before settling into a night of packing for a vacation.

Some unexpected work distractions (joys of working from home) caused me to break out the big guns: stagg jr batch 2 now and ECBP Batch 8 on deck.

Weller Centennial with a small cube. My throat is a bit raw from a Fall cold and the chill in the whiskey is soothing.

if someone held a gun to my head (not a stretch given I have 4 loaded ones nearby) I couldn't tell you which I like more.

Having a small pour of 50:50 W12/OWA, and just opened a bottle of Wild Turkey Master's Keep. Happy Thursday!

Day 2 of a store pick, 11.5 yr old KCSB. Everything is there in spades, including the Beam profile... which I love.

Every time I go back to KCSB I end up asking myself why I ever left. A readily available, balanced and complex 'big boy' whiskey with age, proof and value! :toast:

I was visiting my parents for 5 days - a bourbon free zone except for some dusty Beam - and decided to use the visit as an opportunity to reset the palate. (Also good to prove to yourself that you can abstain easily for 5 days just to confirm that you don't have a "problem".)

I returned yesterday and broke the fast with a pour of Larceny, which did not seem quite as good as I remember from prior to the trip, and a pour of 4RSB, which was exceptional and better than pre-fast.

Tonight, taking in some Thursday Night Football with some HMcKBIB, WRDO, and OFBB'15.

Just Blanton's

For dinner, no doubt, all you're having is just tenderloin and lobster tail. Mrs. Hop, perhaps, wears just Gucci and Prada. It's a rough life ain't it?

On my 2nd pour of Old Forester 1870 Original Batch... 1st pour was neat and this is over ice with a splash of water. It's funny, but what I'm getting here is just bourbon. I've tried to analyze and break down the different flavors and scents I'm picking up, but what I'm getting is just bourbon. I thought the water and ice might bring out something deeper, but it just sweetens the flavors on the tongue... Doesn't bring anything else forward. I've tried concentrating on specific things... Vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, oak, leather, tobacco, coffee, etc... And I can't really pull anything individual out. Normally with Old Forester I get butterscotch up front and then a little oak and leather and finish with cinnamon and a touch of coffee. But with this it just stays the stays consistent beginning to end and stays on the tongue long after it's gone. It's undeniably Brown and Foreman and to me that's perfect.

Hate when work gets in the way of whiskey, but that's been the case lately. A bit stuffy, so prescribing myself the last ounce of some barrel proof KC, which has me anxiously awaiting early December! yum:
