BourbonGuy
It is cheap at $21. Wonder if anyone tried it. Otherwise I'll pass. Here is the ad: Yahara Bay DistillersAlready a 2012 gold medal winner at the MicroLiquor Awards, V small batch bourbon is aged 3 years and is artisanally crafted in small batch/single barrels. "Revealing anything more would ruin the FINISH."
BigBoldBully
I think you are wise to pass, absent a surprising groundswell of praise amongst trustworthy palates. While it is inexpensive compared to other unpromising "craft" whiskey, it is still not cheap IMO, when so many truly good whiskeys (that also happen to be over 80 proof) can be had at and below the price point. Heck, when I consider that it costs more than OGD 114 (WI prices) yet is 30% more dilute, it seems downright pricey--just not as insanely priced as many micros. squire
Revealing anything more would show the man behind the curtain.Edit: After visiting the Yahara Bay web site it appears this whisky is their own make. What I find puzzling is why is a self styled artisan distiller so stingy with details about their product. jtn
This is second-hand, but a friend recently told me that Yahara Bay is her go-to in an Old Fashioned. I hadn't heard of it.
BourbonGuy
I tried "Charred Oak Bourbon Whiskey" also from Yahara Bay. They had a whiskey tasting and I was able to sample some. In a blind tasting when a friend handed me three clear plastic cups, I picked Charred Oak over Few bourbon and Long Island Rough Riders.I wasn't able to try "V". drunk
Well, the fact that you found this important enough to share as your first post in over 7 years, has given me the idea that I should buy a bottle!
jtn
It just seemed appropriate, since I'd only ever heard of it a day or two before, and then it came up on here!
BourbonGuy
Found a review: http://www.drinkhacker.com/2013/01/28/review-yahara-bay-bourbon-whiskey/I purchased a bottle today. The manager lowered the price to $19.99 and said it didn't sell because of he ugly label. I have a few bottles open, but will let you guys know... Chris m
Being from Madison, I was obligated to buy this. I've had the V bourbon and regular YB Whiskey--neither were good. It's been a long time since I had the whiskey but I've hand V blind and myself & others thought it was a young, unpleasant Scotch. Save your money. I had one shot left of my Wild Turkey 101. I settled down with a book, and thought about this bottle. I poured a glass. Hmmmm..kind of light in color. Smell...Wet cardboard. This isn't going to turn out well I thought. One sip and Chris m post came to mind. Very young, and pretty bad. I rarely dump my glass. But this wasn't worth drinking. Best analogy, if you ever had Dead Guy whiskey. My opinion. YMMV

Then again it is pretty awful.
BourbonGuy
I try to go on the assumption that bourbon can be both inexpensive and good. This bottle of "V" made me appreciate Evan Williams Black. 1 Liter: $13.00 and much better.
