Makers Mark gold Label & Wax?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, but have been into bourbon for a while now. When my Grandfather learned of my affinity for bourbon, he told me he wanted me to have something and handed my the bottle of Makers Mark you see in the images below. He couldn't tell me that much about the bottle, other than he got it as a gift when he used to work in advertising. He thinks it's from the 60s or the 70s. It has a tax stamp over the wax. I've searched all over the internet for the bottle and have found other gold Makers bottles, but none that look like this one other than some special bottles made for President Reagan. These were produced in the 80s, which make me think my Grandfather was off on his estimate of the bottle's age. The name on the label "F. Richard Schwartz," is his. I'd be grateful to know anything about the bottle, the bourbon, and the history. Thank you very much! -K33fer

Gold Seal MM should be 101 proof juice... reported to be very tasty.

There was Gold Seal MM at 101 proof, but this isn't it. This is standard 90 in a special presentation bottle. Which is usually no slouch in itself, and given how long ago this was produced (I'm guessing early 1970s), it's probably pretty good.

Yes, standard Makers in a presentation bottle. If it was produced in the 60s or 70s that makes it Family Era stuff which was exceptional compared to the recent product.
