Just had me a flight of I.W. Harper 15, CEHT CO, and last but not least PVW15.......

I'm not going to go thru each one with a description, just not good at that, but I will tell you as I progressed thru the flight they got better, IWH was ok, the CO was much better, and the PVW 15 was by far the best, now granted I did not do a blind tasting flight..which would be cool to do, just tasted them back and forth. I think my buds where I bit out of whack also, but it was still good....

Do you have any particular madness to your selections when you do have one? Proofs, family, mashbills, etc.etc.

I thought I'd keep them at least in the 15 yr. range for this one.

So what's the last flight you had?

The answer to that question for me is generally found here! My choices are generally all over the place, based on what I picked up lately and of course not limited to just whiskey. We have an open policy for brown spirits of all types!

Did a flight last night of 2010 ER 17, Cured Oak and POH.

Call me crazy, the ER17 was horrible. Nothing going on really and there was this medicinal taste lingering in the finish. Maybe I got a bad sample (open too long and very oxidized). The Cured Oak was delicious. Decided to finish the night with one of my favorite pours, POH, to make up for the lackluster ER17.

Wow, horrible ER17?, I always thought that stuff was very smooth, not at the top of my favs, but ok, maybe the buds were a bit off for you, I thought the same for me the other day, it doesn't happen a lot but I think that night they were. CO was always good for me and the other night it also tasted a bit off, although it was near the end of the bottle, but it hasn't been open very long, glad to have a backup. Still have not cracked open my POH, why I don't know... they just look so nice full. Besides, my drinking buddy has that one open and we hit that every now and then, and I have some open that he doesn't... so it works out. I wish I would have bought another one of those, they were all over the place back then.

I was a big fan of the original Eagle Rare 10 year 101 proof. So much so in fact when heard it was to be discontinued we drove down to New Orleans and bought all in sight. Came back with at least 19 bottles and over subsequent years cheerfully drank the lot.

ER17 from Buffalo Trace I've found to be hit or miss though. Some were exceptional, for an overaged Bourbon, and some were thin, oaky and hot, even for a 90 proofer and I'm pretty much a BIB guy. Shame really, the brand has a great heritage.

Went back to it tonight for the last remaining ounce. A little bit better tonight. I think last night, it was the astringency in the finish that wasn't sitting well with me. It's still there tonight but not as much as last night. Going to chalk it up to my palate having an off night.

The only ER101 I've ever tried (and still have a 2oz sample left) is the Frankfort batch which I thought was fantastic. I've heard that that the NOLA and Lawrenceburg bottlings were even better!

JB, how long has your bottle been open? Had you noticed any degradation in it before ?

Joe, unfortunately, I received this as a sample so unsure how long the bottle was open.

Top shelf two pour flight of PVW 20 and a follow up of PHC 27yr.

Julian may be able to pick a great barrel, but it's not even a close second to what Parker did with the 2nd release. Epic whiskey.

Wow, that's a damn good closure with the PHC27, you must really be nursing that beauty. I believe a year or two ago, when Binny's had the Sb tasting thing going on I had tried some of that,(I think that's what he had, actually had 2 bottles but one of them the cork broke off) and man I was blown away, it was by far the best pour I had there. What year was that released?

It came out in 2008. And then sat on the shelve in most places for a very long time. At the time, it was expensive, which is why is sat. And there wasn't the boom yet. And it sat some more.

To me, it is a whiskey worth the cost. And yes, I'll nurse it for a bit enjoying it's otherworldliness goodness, yes it's that good.

But I won't lament too much when it's gone, as the other couple in the bunker will come out to see the light of day in the future.

You know your bunker is legendary status when you have PHC 27yrs just waiting in reserve. Man your friends must love you.

Last nights flight.... WLW '13, ECBP #6, and finished with GTS '13 in celebration of getting a GTS '15 yesterday. All solid pours, I think I could do this one every night.

thats another nice lineup.

Last night, I did HW RR ex-bourbon followed by '13 THH (first time trying).

Noe I know what everyone says when they say they get that dill pickle taste from MGP ryes as it was non-existent in the THH.

The THH was fantastic, never tasted a rye this delicious. Apples, caramel, full bodied, spicy, medium finish. Wow!!!

This afternoon I did an odd flight that included Michters Barrel Strength Rye, Michter's Toasted Barrel, RRSB Rye, and PHC 2015 Malt. In other words, all over the map! It was a lot of fun - the most important piece - and the pours were short; just enough to taste really. Out of that line-up, I'm torn between the two ryes - both really good but different.

Last night's flight was a pretty good one. It was a night of polishing off near empty bottles.

Opened it up with CEHT CO, there was just a little bit left in the bottle so finished that off first. Good stuff, I'm glad a have a few more of those bunkered.

Then went on to a very generous pour of ETL, I didn't think there was that much left, but when I poured it into the glass, I was like WOW that's a healthy pour, (but you know you can't pour some back into the bottle). Been a while since I had this juice and I don't have any more, this stuff is getting just as hard to find as any of the LE stuff....Very good!

After that I finished off my ER17 '13 ...very good!

Then I finished the night off with a final pour of 4R LE '14, there wasn't quite enough left in that bottle for a decent pour, so I put in a little of the 4R LE '15....damn good stuff!

Finished that off and that finished me off for the night.

Today started off with baby Saz then went to MWND, then to JD Barrel Proof, then to 2014 GTS. The GTS was the best but dam that MWND Act 3 Scene 1 was damn good!! Drank almost half a bottle between me and a friend. The Babat Saz was third with the the JD bringing up the rear. The GTS and MWND were way above the other two though.

Well, Friday's flight started with sipping some RHF while kicking back with the wife in the movie theater in their dream loungers watching Spectre, it was ok. Then we went to a new restaurant (new for us) for some hand made pizza, it was so packed we just ordered it to go, so we found a spot at the bar, asked what they had for bourbons, she got as far as Booker's, I'll take that one ...neat. Then we went home ate the pizza which was ok, had me a pour of WR.

Then my buddy came over and then things got a bit out of control.....

Let's see... the new OFBIB 1897,...this was good. (he brought it over), and I already had a older version, so why not do the SBS thing? The older was definitely better more rich better nose, delicious!

I had bought me some Mellow corn for the first time earlier that day along with some WR which I hadn't had in a long time, so we moved on to the MC. That stuff was very surprising! Indeed mellow and quite tasty for a Corn BIB and at $12!

After that, let's see..where did we go... oh yeh on to some Michters rye...not bad, and as long as we were on the rye thing I popped my WT101 rye, that was good!

Then a bit of some Calumet which we hadn't had in some time, that was unremarkable but still ok.

We weren't going anywhere so.. why not keep going... we went on to some Greenspot, really good stuff. Now at this point were pretty lit up, and was enjoying the GS, but while I was sipping I was looking at the table and had a revelation, I got up and poured some of the Michter's rye in with the GS, (50/50)...WOW now that was some really good stuff..the nose was incredible, the taste was also, it was really good, my buddy had to do the same, and he had the same impression.

Well it's 4 am by this time and we couldn't hold our heads up anymore... so time for bed. Whew what a night, felt it all day yesterday too. I leave you with this image. Looking forward to some MC again today.

By 4 a.m. you could have had cordovan Shinola on a Ritz cracker and exclaimed, "Wow, now that is some really good stuff!"

Last night I did a flight of Bernheim NAS, Bernheim 7, and Parkers 13. Love them all but guess which one I like the most.

Based on the always scientific and trusty Eeny-Meeny-Miney-Moe method, I came up with Bernheim 7???
