Stopped by Kemps Creek Liquor on our travels through Western Sydney... Didn't snag anything special (they had heaps, but I had a budget), so grabbed an Old Forester, a 375 of Buffalo Trace and an old 200ml bottle of Austin Nichols Wild Turkey.

What did you get at Nicks?

Picked up a bottle of Ancient Age and Henry DuYore Bourbon (after tasting it).... Haven't cracked either yet as I just got back from a 12 day trip visiting family for Xmas/new Year in Taree/Barrington/Sydney/Orange....

And, my family know me too well.  I came home with Xmas/Birthday gifts of Makers Mark, Makers 46 and a Blanton's.  Looks like I've got enough supplies to get me through the year already :)

Good work. Haven't been there too often this past year (haven't needed to go there!). Last bottle I bought there was OGD80.

Been drinking a bit of Scotch recently. Sorry lads. Haha.

Haha me too. I think it stems from me trying pretty much every Bourbon I can get my hands on south of around $120. There's no where else for me to go and I like to try new things.

My brother was over last night and we had nice pours of Rare Breed 112, 4 Roses SB and Knob Creek SB in that order.  All were lovely. Tonight though back to some malt with some Bunnahabhain 12 and Benromach 10.

Decided to get some work done this Sunday afternoon. Mowed the lawn (there's plenty of it), then washed the car.

Figured that deserved a reward so I cooled down with a Founders All Day IPA before emptying the last 1/2 oz. or so of WTRB (the new 112.8 proof bottling) into a Glencairn for my first bottle kill of the year.

Yeah, had they not sold out of the OGD80 stock before I got there, my choice of bottles would have been easy - 3 bottles of OGD80 :)

On the drinking side, January has been a bit quiet..... spending this weekend laid up with a sinus infection didn't help :(

Thanks for the heads up onemorepour. That's a great price, there's only place around me I know of that stocks it, and it's $80. Such a shame Aldi don't ship to WA.

Just killed another bottle of EWB86 whilst relaxing. Might have an OGD 114 or KC100 next before retiring for the evening.

Yeah great price. Bakers is my clear fav out of the Beam collection and was at one point a regular in my house but became reasonably scarce at reasonable prices. Four Roses Small Batch is also a fantastic price. I actually complained when it became unavailable recently. To their credit Aldi got back to me and said it would be restocked.

Quiet couple of weeks bourbon wise for me.... With the heat here in Brisbane I've been enjoying alternating between CC Summer Crisp RTD's and WT Honey with Ginger Beer mixers.  Can't wait for some cooler weather so I can return to a few pours neat!

Sort of a bump I guess, the Aussie contingent has been somewhat quiet of late, likely to do with the heat, but the weather is getting mild and my bourbon is getting attacked again, having some Woodfords Double tonight, which has grown on me greatly.

Anyone else dissapointed with the bourbon selection recently? A lot of new NDP crap popping up at crazy prices but I havent seen anything to be excited about for a while, any rumours?

You're definitely not the only one. I saw Bib & Tucker 6 year for $179 last Saturday. ORVW 10 year also, for a mere $499. At least they were on the shelves collecting dust; hopefully that's where they stay. Retail tactics like that are unscrupulous, and all they achieve is to encourage me to take my business elsewhere. Unfortunately it's like a cancer to which more and more retailers succumb over time.

On a more positive note, I picked up some Bulleit 10 year for the first time. 10 year age statement. 90 proof. $60. Can't expect much more than that these days.

Have been enjoying a pour of Four Roses Premium that I picked up in Japan last month.  Probably the best Four Roses pour I've had to date.  I assume some Single Barrel picks would blow it out of the water, but they are nearly non-existent here.

Haven't picked one up yet, but I see that Wild Turkey 13yo Distillers Reserve has just hit our market.  I could be wrong, but I seem to recall it was a Japan only release for some years... Anyone else tried it?

Yeh it was available in Japan 3-4 years ago, notb sure about these days.

Reminded me more of the 8yr than the 12 yr, probably due the lower proof, definitely a nice enough whiskey but an obvious attempt to attract the age statement obsessed Japanese market. If its around RB price I might be tempted again

It's going to retail for $95 by the look of things.... Not bad when you consider most places I saw it on the shelf in Japan last month had it retailing for 6500 yen (approx. $80AU) yen or more.

Sorry lads - been caught up with life. I'm in Japan next month again, not sure what to get (bourbon or Japanese whisky). Looks like I can leave the Japanese WT alone - that's the purple bottle right?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Japanese WT 13yo is the same one that just landed here.  My experience over there a few months ago was that they're as hard up for aged Japanese whiskey as we are... sometimes more so.

Personally, I'd be stocking up on Japan only bourbons - Four Roses Premium/Platinum, Four Roses Black Label, IW Harper 12, Blanton's Black Label....  The rest can be found here, albeit sometimes expensively, but can still be found.  Here's what I found at the store I got most of my stuff:

Wow. This will be my 8th trip and I've never come across a store like that. Guess I need to look harder.

Having a few pours of JD single barrel recently, first bottle in about 5 years, great change of pace, so soft and so full of vanilla and cinnamon, dont know why I have waited so long, feels like finding a treasure hidden in plai sight.

Found 2 bottles of Wild Turkey Diamond Anniversary marked down from $155 to $133 on the weekend, and the store also had 6 bottles of the out-of-production Cougar XS for $55 each.
