The wife was on a work trip to Singapore last week and picked these up for me.  Can't wait to open them :)

Ooooh.  We rarely see OWA here (unless I get on a ladder and peek at my stash); I envy your Blantons find.  We only get the "regular" here.  Bummer.;)

We are spoilt for Blanton's here: Blantons Family Reserve (Green Label), Regular, Gold Label and Straight from the Barrel are all at our biggest nation-wide retail chain.  But they cost.

As for OWA, it's only seen if individuals or bars import it direct from a market that stocks it :(

I received a bottle of whistlepig 10year from the missus for our anniversary along with a nice handmade leather sling for my favourite deer hunting rifle, really looking forward to the whistlepig as it is something I haven't had the opportunity to taste previously.

Reminds me to buy a new Blanton's Gold. Well, perhaps two. One for me and one for my old man.

Been really enjoying Jack Daniels No 27 Gold lately, and enjoy it more than Sinatra Select.  It's not cheap at $150 a bottle, so probably worth trying at a bar or restaurant first if you've never had it.  An interesting trivia point I picked up at a tasting with Asst. Master Distiller Chris Fletcher a few weeks back while he was in Australia: It's not available in all markets and likely won't be in large markets like the US because the 2nd barreling they do in Maple Wood barrels has major leakage problems.

Interesting. I have been sitting on a bottle I got DF two or so years back. Might open it.

Jim Beam double oak for something new, very non jim beamy and seems decent so far, not something I can see myself falling in love with but it may become a decent value pour option when you consider the limited options in the low $50 price range these days.

Bit a storm over here so I dipped in some WT Masters Keep and put it head to head with the WT Tradition. Must say I prefered the Tradition.

What the... When did they start exporting bourbon to Australia? I thought you guys only drank quart size cans of Foster's Lager! :P

We're actually the biggest consumers of bourbon pre mix per capita in the world down here......

On the bourbon availability Downunder front, it is great to see our biggest national retail chain carrying Old Forester now!  And at $55 a bottle, it may just become a regular pour for many people!

If that is Australian dollars then it is "only" $42 or so US. If that is US$ then yikes.

In reality it's only about $9.99! The rest is taxes. It's kinda like Washington State... :D

More great news on the Downunder bourbon front.... It looks like Dan's have Barton 1792 Small Batch in stock.  Listed at $82.99 (approx. $58 USD).  Not sure if it'll be a regular line, or similar to the Wild Turkey 13yo that was only in stock for a few months.... Personally, I love the stuff so will be chasing a few bottles to stick on the shelf at home.

Attended Brisbane's Whiskey Live event on Friday night.  We're the last Whiskey Live of the year here, so all the other capitals have had theirs earlier in the year.  Some interesting attendees this year with more çraft distillers present.  Got to try Sanoma County Wheat Whiskey & Rye, the Dry Fly range, Cody Road Bourbon and Rye, Hudson Baby Bourbon & Rye and Peerless Rye.  There's some interesting stuff going on in the craft world, but as most posts here attest, they're either too young or too overpriced at this time of their evolution.  One other worthy mention was Jack Daniels Rye.  I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly supprised by it's full flavor and smoothness.  It was probably the most bourbon like Rye I've tried in some time.  The awesome news though was that final distillery not represented in our market will finally be here early next year.  Four Roses is expected to make it's national debut in late January or February of 2018.  They had Yellow Label, Small Batch and Single Barrel on offer to taste, and are expecting to have all 3 variations on offer when they launch.

It appears that the cult soon will be worldwide.  And it couldn't happen in a better place.  Did not make it to Brisbane or your far west, but I loved the Sydney-Melbourne-Canberra triangle.  Spent a month-plus there while Aust. was celebrating the 200th anniversary of Capt. Cook discovering Aust. and its inhabitants.  Never heard of Foster's until I got back home.  Toohey's and Heineken were all we drank.  I also loved that your "nickels" were the size of our "quarters".  I could stand in front of a slot machine at a Returned Servicemen's Club all night and be assured I'd lose less than $10 US even though I felt like I was chucking in "quarters".  Ah, memories.  Glad I still have them regardless of how inaccurate they may be.  Excuse the aside.  I think it's the Old Crow I had the other night  for VBT 565 (shudder).

RE: your JD Rye comment, I have only tasted it once, and that was at WhiskyFest Wash DC last March.  It was late in the evening, and I have no real recollection of the taste, who poured, or what I said, and I have no idea what my written note says.  However, the fact that I made a note means I probably liked it.  Thank you for the reminder.
