My value gotos here in Maryland are (regular sale prices):

ER10 <$22

EC12 <$21

KCSB120 $30

OGD114 $25

Consider yourself lucky, all of those except OGD114 are about $10 more here. OGD114 is $27 here. If KCSB was $30 here it would be a regular buy I think.

Where you can find ec12 it is 30 or so. Er10 is listed at 36 and hasn't been in stock for months even at that price

EC12 holds a special place for me, as it was the first bourbon I took home with me once I decided on a whim to get back into bourbon and to get more adventurous this time around. (Previously had only had JBW, old school Weller, and rare breed, that I can recall, and only drank them "casually."). I was already in the liquor store looking for something else and tried to select a promising bourbon based on labels alone. Appreciated the age statement and distillery information that came with the EC12, and at $19 it did not seem badly priced. It was a bit too woody and dry for me, but seemed like a great bourbon for adding flavor to mellower whiskies. That is how I used it for quite a while, but more recently I came to appreciate EC12-the standard version, as I have only ever noticed one private selection-on its own. This is of course a bad sign as it keeps getting harder to drink younger or milder stuff without feeling something is missing.

Main reason I wanted to post in this thread, though, is that I have not seen anyone discussing what are apparently newly fangled corks for the bottles with the new label (age statement on back). Whereas the corks have normally looked natural to me, these new ones (which I have only scrutinized through the clear glass) look like some sort of composite monstrosity. Wondering which will end up being more reliable--the new ones gave me the impression they will be quite brittle, prompting me to stock up even more on the older style. (Would probably rather they just went to some sort of nice screw caps.)

I'm a big fan of EW 1783 and EC12. Both great values and easy to find.

These two may make up the best bang for the buck combination in bourbon.

Living in Australia, our definition of 'value' is probably a bit different.... There's virtually nothing on our market under $30 these days, and very limited offerings under $35 (Jim Beam White, Nelson County by Heaven Hill and a couple of locally 'sourced' products).. The $35-$40 bracket opens up considerably, but it's really in the $40 - $50 bracket that things get more interesting. So with the exception of the two mentioned above in the under $35, my top 5 bargains are currently:

Makers Mark $42

Wild Turkey 86.8 $43

Jim Beam Bonded $50

Blanton's Special Reserve $52

Buffalo Trace $53

Many of these come up on special from time to time, so a 10%-15% saving can be made...

WT101, Old Forester Signature, Jim Beam Black (8yr), Even Williams 1783, are all very good in my opinion. The "extra aged" Jim Beam Black is horrible, IMO, white labels tastes better.
