Has anyone tried the Sweet Wheat or Port Finish, yet? I had initially thought that Sweet Wheat would be a new regular variety, but I've been reading on the interwebz that these are both limited releases.

I liked the Sweet Wheat ok. If I'm going wheated, then I'd probably pick Larceny or Weller instead, but it's a good drinker.

I didn't particularly care for the Port Finish on the first impression. Seemed kind of harsh but had a notable dry red wine-ish finish. I'll come back after further research and add more detail.

I'm interested in seeing how it compares to Angel's Envy, since that's finished in port casks too. I agree, the sweet wheat was ok, but nothing special. I haven't seen the port finish yet, but it just reminds me of AE, and I'm kinda over the whole port finish thing.

I prefer Angel's Envy by far. It's smoother and sweeter. The 1792 has a lot more of those woody tannins.

Never saw the Sweet Wheat, but I picked up a Port Finished the other day for $35. Seemed like minimal risk with that one. Read some positive, and some not-so-positive things about the Port Finished, so only bought one bottle.

I bought one bottle of Sweet Wheat about a month ago, and the store had about 4 more. I thought I'd get one first, try it, and decide if I'd get a few more. I opened it, pour a glass, and thought, "hmm...it's ok". I have probably consumed 2 ounces out of the bottle. I like OWA better, I live MMCS better, and W12 much better. It just tasted one dimensional, a bit hot for the proof. Perhaps the one month of air will help it out. I'll try it later today to see if it's changed for the better.

I have the port finished 1792 and plan to do a blind side by side with Angel's Envy and the two different Bowman port finished bourbons. Just haven't been able to get to it yet. Soon I hope!

I just did a side-by-side with 1792 Sweet Wheat and a few other "usual suspects" wheaters (MM, WSR, Larceny). To my taste buds, the 1792 seemed to have a stronger floral element, and a stronger general flavor, than some of the others. However, it wasn't a quantum leap in awesomeness over the others---it's good, but not so great that it's worth chasing if the others are readily available. I try to keep examples of the various mashbills of the significant bourbon producers, so I was happy to find a bottle of Sweet Wheat to get the Barton wheat mashbill, but if I can't replace it when it's gone, I won't be heartbroken.

On a related note, I've been enjoying the regular old 1792 Ridgemont Reserve lately. Not a limited release, but a decent bourbon. I've never tried the port finished version.

While I enjoyed it when we did a SBS of various wheaters this is summer I didn't find it stood out much either.

I was able to do this side by side yesterday. I also found a Big Bottom port finish over the weekend in Vegas of all places and added it to the lineup. Was a little disappointed by the port finished 1792. But the Bowman's are still some very nice whiskey.

I heard that Virginia got more of the Sweet Wheat recently, so it looks like this might be an annual release or a permanent line extension rather than just a limited edition.

Yes I have noticed several have shown up at a local store here as well, also had several of the 1792 Single Barrel which are now gone.

From what heard, sweet wheat will come on occasion and the port won't show up for a while again (supposedly more of a limited run).

Sweet wheat is back in stock near me. Also single barrel. Haven't seen full proof yet.
