I like to feel a warm glow in my chest when sipping bourbon. For me, Maker's Mark barely does this. How about Weller's Special Reserve or 107? Thanks, Sam.

Samboh, I think there are a lot of heart warming bourbons. More that are than not, actually. Sometimes my heart gets warm just thinking about them. And a tear comes to the corner of my eye. But, if you think the glow is attributable to proof, the OWA should do the trick for you. Try some of the barrel proofers if you have not. EC, KC, 4R, WTRB. You may find, however, that heat does not directly correlate with proof. Some sub-100 proofers are a lot hotter than those at 120+.

Thanks, Flyfish. I'm an old guy but new to bourbon wisdom so the acronyms are foreign to me. I'll try to figure them out. Also, I neglected to say that I try to stick to wheated bourbons due to a problem with rye. Thanks again!

I don't think larceny is harsh but I just had my first dram last night. I almost couldn't taste the alcohol.

Unfortunately, if you issues with rye, your bourbon options are more limited. I think Old Weller Antique is a nice "warming" bourbon due to its proof and lasting finish. I find Maker's Mark Cask Strength to have a nice warming finish. I believe you really need to try Larceny for yourself. It is difficult to judge bourbon solely based on reviews or other's opinions. I like the entry and finish of Larceny. Otherwise, if you wish to avoid rye bourbons, other options might have to be found in other whiskeys...scotch, Irish, etc.

I would vote for Old Weller Antique which is 107 proof, and also Maker's Mark Cask Strength which is usually 110-115 proof.

Maybe a heavy dose of WLW is what the doctor ordered...

The 2014 at north of 140 proof will fit that bill nicely.

And don't forget to try Bernheim Wheat Whiskey. It's not a bourbon because it's 51% wheat mash (or more, I forget and am too lazy to open another tab and check:rolleyes:) so is less than 50% corn as bourbon must be. Bernheim is pretty smooth and I keep it on hand even though I tend to like high rye bourbons. That funny roughness you feel with Larceny, even at 92 proof, is peculiar. I sense it, too, but just attribute it to the Old Fitz formula. Try adding a drop or two or three (I'm not kidding - just a drop or so) to it and swirl it and then taste. You may find a mellow spot. Be sure to keep track of how many drops have been dropped so you can duplicate it if you hit a sweet spot.

Except that it has rye in the mashbill which he said he was trying to avoid.

I remember when I toured Makers Mark, the goal was the reduce the chest heat that's why they use a lot of wheat so its smoother. I have WSR and OWA I should try and compare them to MM.
