This new release in Ontario claims rye, wheat, barley and corn content, so all the bases are covered.

It's very good, with sweet and full flavour yet not a "straight" profile as even Canadian Club single rye grain has, or of course WhistlePig, or Lot 40.

There is a marked smell of charred oak and this is clearly noticeable in the glass, that violets-and-BBQ taste some whiskey has.

Good glycerine-like mouthfeel, not too spirity as too much Canadian whisky is from the portion distilled at near neutral strength.

It is complex and the flavours must be teased out, but in a good way.

Worth the money $44, and at 44.4% ABV, it's a buck a proof point, eh?

I'd guess it is a regular Canadian blend mixed with Maker's Mark, but maybe I'm wrong.

Quoque to et seq, first rate read. Gary for some reason this one reminds me of a G&W limited expression from about 15 years ago the label of which I cannot remember. It didn't contain any wheat I believe, but was in the price range of Lot 40.

Thanks, Gary

ASIDE - LOVE your beer blog.

It has become a must read for me ever since I discovered it after Chuck added it to the blog list on his website.

Yes (Squire) I remember that one but this is different, like that one with an added note of new charred barrel-aged straight whiskey.

Thanks again for these kind remarks. I'll have to get some spirits reviews up there, some low-cost bourbons may be next. :)

As always, thanks for the heads up Gary. I assume this is Corby... any info on distribution?

Not sure of the U.S. channels for this one, I'd assume it will be sold there. It's a very good whisky and worth the money, the "straight" element in it makes all the difference...

Sounds Fantastic! Looks like it is available here in Alberta. Going to have to pick up a bottle of this.

must be good. The tasting notes from Dr Livermore (master blender) are: "I first taste wheat, then barley, then corn, and finishes with rye"

LOL portwood. Good one! I rather prefer Gillmans post.

On principle, after that exchange, I thought of not giving them any of my money. However, after reading a couple of respected reviews (inc Gilman) I'm reconsidering. The only Canadian whiskies worthy of my money are all Cory's brands (lot 40, wisers legacy), so I may get a bottle of the G&W

Wisers is an excellent whiskey the one I have tasted is the Wisers 18 year. Yes it is an 80 proof. But still a nice sipper for what it is. I'm looking forward for my collection Wisers legacy and small batch and red letter.

Legacy blows 18 out of the water. It's a truly world-class product that transcends the "good (for a Canadian whisky)" phenomenon.

Anyway, looking forward to trying some of Gooderham & Worts! I keep saying I need to take a one or two night trip to Canada just to bring back stuff I can't get here.
