I am so grateful for this awesome forum and all you kind folks.  Your vast knowledge and guidance have helped me pulled off this amazing Christmas gift to hubby.  Talking about an instant bunker!  You would be proud.

Although, I was not able to score some of the rare "unicorns" (well I did find those darn elusive Pappy and FRLE but I wasn't willing to pay the black market price), I did great with the every day stuff.  Now I will have to sacrifice one of my kitchen cabinets so I can store these bottles.

Can't wait until Christmas!  :P

Mahalo!

Congratulations!  I hope that you both find much enjoyment exploring the nuances that each bottle provides.

We're looking forward to the reports!

Yes, I'm anxious to see which will be his top 5 favorites!

So what did you get him?

I have been buying and hiding them so I can't remember what the heck I bought!  I just know I have been busy buying A LOT.  I'm going to clear one of my cabinets so I can put them in there then I'll take a pic to show you.  Hubby doesn't cook so he won't think to look in there.

Hehe, sounds like me, I'd rather eat out than cook.

Yes why cook when you have a wife for that?  Heck we could all use a wife or two.  :D:lol:

Nah, much too expensive and would eat into the whiskey budget! Besides, why eat and ruin a good buzz???

But if necessary I can nuke stuff in the microwave with the best of them... B)

My present to hubby was well received.  He was very excited to try them. He clearly has a few favorites, but I think as his palate matures a little things may change.

HH, that is seriously a heck of a job that you did building a collection, and serious WOTY (wife of the year) material!  You've got Heaven Hill (Elijah Craig), Four Roses, and Buffalo Trace (Elmer T Lee, Weller, Rock Hill Farms, Blanton's, etc.) covered.  You can now venture onto some Wild Turkey, Beam, Brown Forman, etc.  I do hope your hubby likes peated Scotch though--that's some serious stuff you got there.  Anyway, hope your hubby enjoys his new goodies and appreciates what a great job you did.  Cheers.

I can't take credit for it all.  This forum has helped me tremendously.   So my sincere gratitude to all!

Yes, hubby loves peat and smoke.  So far Stagg Jr. and Laphroaig cairdeas 2015 were the two he asked me to stock up.

Sounds great.  Stagg Jr. (recent batches) is outstanding stuff, generally available, and well priced at around $50.  Good call on stocking up.

And another great job there on the Japanese whiskys.  I would call you crazy, but I too just recently built a Japanese collection from scratch, focusing on the age statements that were going away.  I "settled" on the Yamazaki 12, Hibiki 12, and Taketsuru 12.  None of the older, more expensive stuff, but the three expressions I picked up are very nice core offerings.

So far he has opened these.  And he ranked them in this order.

1.  Stagg Jr.

2.  Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015

3.  OWA

4.  EH Taylor

5.  Well 12

6.  Ardbeg

7.  Crown Royal Rye

I would've put Stagg Jr as number one as well! - I bought FIVE bottles of it (Batch 4, 132.2 proof)

Same here.  I stocked up on that batch, as well.
