He mentioned JBB is about 5-6 years old. It used to be 8 correct?

It was yes. Wow, that's quite a drop.

I haven't tasted the new NAS version, but I have to assume there would be a change from 8 down to 5-6.

By all accounts that I have read, there has been a noticeable dropoff in the NAS version.  And the 8 year was no superstar to begin with, so that's not too compelling for the "extra aged"...

It is not good, it has lost a lot of redeeming qualities and now is one dimensional and weak.

Joe - What's "tape"?:D

Can't say this disappoints me .  I have been away from JB Black for some time.  Struck me as astringent and "sooty ".  Who knows, maybe the younger age will strike a better chord with me?  But, I doubt I'll try, as my Beam yen is being met with others in their portfolio including, the Bonded, KCSB, KC, and Bakers. Heck, for the small increase in price, why not gravitate upwards to regular Knob if you're a big fan of Black?

so that's what the chewing is?  I've read about it but never imagined it was done in this fashion!  so do you guys do the "kentucky chew" when you drink your bourbon??

I agree, Joe.  I did like the "8 YR" and did try the early NAS and then kept it around for use with persons asking about different house styles, but after the JB bonded came out (and KC went on prolonged sale @ $22 per 750), I stopped buying it.  When the bunkered "8 YR" is gone (which at the rate it gets used lately will be quite awhile from now even though I don't have a lot), I won't replace it with JBB NAS.

I don't do it quite as noisily as they did in the video, but I tend to do a variation.  Not on every sip, but if I'm savoring or trying to analyze the flavor then I do it to spread it around my tongue.

I was kind of hoping they would feature something other than JBW, JBB and JBApple. Of course, maybe it's better the world at-large doesn't know about KC or Booker's.

I was also hoping that maybe JLaw would be tasting as well, but she got in on the act with her glass of wine...
