I had a very Merry Christmas and I hope you all did as well. My wife has done a marvelous job of informing our close friends and family that I've become a bourbon cultist. well, lucky me received 4 bottle of bourbon yesterday, 2 of which I did not own or taste yet.

Maker's Mark- Own 2 and know it well

Knob Creek- know it well also and have had it several times before

Now onto the new stuff! A bottle of Michter's 10 and a bottle of Willet. The Willet bottle is like the " I Dream of Jeanie " bottle which is quite a beautiful bottle. when I opened it and had a shot of it, man was that ever good! What a nice, smooth, tasty bourbon! The Michter's was next and that too, was an absolutely delicious bourbon. These 2 new bourbons are a welcome addition to my arsenal and I owe my wife a debt of gratitude for making that happen! she's a keeper!

Ive only had the Michters US-1 Bourbon. It is a wonderful bourbon. I have been eagerly waiting to have a Michters 10 in my bunker. Maybe. a Michters 20 for my 50th Birthday. Maybe.

I was also impressed with the Michter's Bourbon. Neither Willett PS or Michter's get much love here. I hope to be able to try the 10 or 20 someday.

Both of those bourbons definitely deserve more airtime here on SB IMHO. I feel that they're 2 fantastic spirits that rival others I have in my closet ( even better than a few I own!) as well as what the fellas here key in on during bourbon discussions.

I truly am a lucky guy to have received them. I am very, very appreciative!

You are not going to see these getting much love here. They are both sourced bourbons which make them tricky. The Willett Pot Still suffers from inconsistency. Some batches are good. Some taste like wet cardboard (a flavor that can afflict many of the KBD bourbons - it's a sign they are being forced to mix in too much young product.)

Michter's is another. Very little love for them here because of all the games, trickeries, and lies that were common with these guys when they started out. All of their younger bourbon is sourced from Brown Forman, so ask yourself the question, is Brown Forman distilling anything you'd be willing to spend what Michter's asks for their bourbons. Their older stuff is sourced from a variety of purchased barrels that can be quite good. Of course, you have to ask if the price is worth it. Their 10 year has actually contained much older bourbon in the past. I've read (but not tasted for myself) that the current 10 year no longer has any of those much older barrels mixed in and that it disappoints in comparison. This is always the bugaboo with sourced bourbon - the difficulty in securing a regular and consistent supply of what made people like you in the first place.
