b1gcountry
Does any one here have an opinion on this batch? A local store has a smoking deal on it, and they only have this batch in stock.
flahute
Booker's generally is Booker's. Getting caught up in trying to differentiate one batch from the next is not going to net much in the way of strong opinions. if you like that batch, and it's a smokin' deal, you should stock up and not worry about if anyone here shares the same opinion. b1gcountry
Thanks. I haven't opened my first bottle yet. my main concern was they got a deal on it because it was sub par
LCWoody
I have several different bottles open from '95, '98, 2000, '05, 25th Anv. and 2014 and 2015. All are good, the only two that stand out are the '95 and the 25th Anv. as being a little better. As flahute said, Booker's is Booker's, it's always good. b1gcountry
So now my only question is at 36.99, how many should I get. .. :)

You said it's local, so buy one, try it and if you really like it, go back for a few extras. $36.99 is cheap. In Virginia they are about $60 (occasionally on sale for $55). Harry in WashDC
Pull up a (very) recent thread titled "Booker's named batches" started by danz in Premium Bourbons/Specialty Bottlings. Booker's naming generally and Maw Maw and the other batches in particular got discussed. [ASIDE: For some reason, today when I do a CTRL-C to copy and CTRL-V to paste, instead of the http line, I get a box quoting the first post. Go figure.] Here's the first post in that thread although the latest ones were in, I think, November. IN SUM - Nobody posting so far has said they've gone wrong picking up ANY Booker's named batch unless they paid more than retail.

Harry in WashDC
Let's see, I'm in Wash DC. The sale ends the 30th. If I start driving now, I could drive straight through to St.L on I-70, then, on the way home, get on I-64 East to I-65 South . . .

b1gcountry
I'm halfway through my first bottle. I am not even going to bother opening the other bottle I just picked up. I will pick up three more bottles, plus a few more bottles of larceny from the same sale. I might even pick up a handle of knob creek. I'd rather get a 750, but $25 vs $37 makes it hard to choose the 750.

LCWoody
The named batches are nothing different, just marketing. And might I say a GREAT marketing strategy for the Bookers lable. Bookers has always been a very good bourbon, but they have gotten a lot of attention lately because of marketing. It's a great buy at sub $40. Can't go wrong. b1gcountry
I know they are standards bookers batches, I just get paranoid when I see a deal that is too cheap for what everyone else is asking. Nobody in the bookers thread actually said they OPENED their 15-05 bottles yet :)

Also possible that they brought in too much of the Maw Maw (or whatever it was) and want to move it out so they can bring in a newer batch. And, as I posted earlier, I buy them regardless of batch # whenever they are on sale.

In KC a local shop had Booker's recently advertised for $37.77 . . . they had three different batches on hand that I saw: Big Man, Maw Maw's and Oven Buster. I went home with the Oven Buster. I have no idea how or why it was at such a price, but they have run the same special twice in the past five weeks.

I have a wild theory about this...purely speculative...I think the newly-emphasized branding of each batch is cutting both ways. People think that each new release is something special instead of just another release, so people are asking for the "new" one, and it's harder to move the previous batches, so they get discounted. Just a thought...
