So I guess if they are jack drinkers you recommend starting them with Evan Williams?

Funny you should mention this.  Many years ago, before most of you were born, I thought this exactly - EW's black label and square bottle was an intentional ripoff of JD's iconic (hahaha - I just made that word up:wacko:) square bottle with black label so "people like me" would get confused and buy the EW which was cheaper so I NEVER did buy the EW. (THAT'll show 'em!)

A couple years later when JD dropped their proof to 80, I tried the EW86.  And thus began my lifelong journey without end toward bourbon nirvana.

In other words, I no longer think the newbies I share bourbons with are incapable of learning on their own.  Hence, I try to show them shortcuts to nirvana.  It's more of a "check THIS out"  than a "THIS one's better than THAT one".
