dSculptor
I frick'n knew this was going to happen, Why?......... This REALLY pisses me off even though I knew it was inevitable. Now what... I'm suppose to go out and stock up and the old stuff? Really ... where does one go nowadays? Maybe if we all give up whisky for a year or so..things may get back to normal...Just Saying................
Kalessin
Maybe in a few years, port wine will be the Big New Thing Again and people will pay thousands for Taylor Fladgate 30-year-old tawny, while bourbon sales ease off and a new bourbon glut starts. I'm sad so see this happen; I've been drinking EC12 since the late 1990's, when scotch prices started to go up sharply, and I bought my first bottle pretty much based on label, age statement, and a low price on sale. If that happens I am well stocked, I was adding port to my cellar long before I got hooked on Bourbon.

I haven't decided yet; perhaps I'll try the NAS someday, but I'm currently feeling a bit of bourbon enthusiast betrayal and sadness from what I considered a bedrock brand. (I'm assuming "buy it" meant ECNAS, not 30-year-old Taylor Fladgate Tawny Port, which is not a bad value at its current price, but I'm not paying thousands for it. The very rarest port currently on the market, Taylor Fladgate Scion, aged from 1855, seems to be going for about $2400/btl on the used market.) Would that be "used port"? Isn't that the same thing as urine??? Seems a bit pricey especially since I am able to make my own!

SebastianLloyd
Soon the only bourbon available will be 4 year. Has there ever been a case of an ageless bottle getting the age statement put back on over the years?

EDIT- After looking online, it appears to still be there, huh? I guess I've had my current bottle longer than I had thought. Perhaps it wasn't selling so they thought the age statement would make it more attractive.

mibourbonguy
I just finished off the bottle I had of EC12, all the more reason to pick up another before they change it. Honestly though the new bottles will probably be still tasty.
mark fleetwood
Sorry to see EC12 go NAS, but IF HH is honest about it being 8-12yr old juice, I'll probably still buy. Just don't like how they handled it. Oh well, at least they didn't pull a Sazerac and just make it say red "12" on the front without the word "years". Had to come back and edit this, as my question had been answered in the new thread of EC12 vs. NAS. I'm glad I went and stocked up on the old, 10 bottles should last me thru the month anyway......... I do agree about them not putting just a 12 on the front. One of my Ls owners told me that his rep told him that they will still probably be 12 yr. old whisky in them for a while yet, it just gives them the opportunity to put younger ones in if they have to. But I think they have started already. So now that we aren't getting that "value" in a 12 yr old, we should see the price come back down again...right? Most of what I have seen around here now a days is approaching over the $30 mark. Edited January 31, 2016 by dSculptor
mouch
I don't think we're going to see a price drop. We're used to paying it and HH is used to getting it. This was a move to keep it from going to a lottery system or shortage on the shelves. I suspect we'll still see it around as often as before (maybe more if people don't like the new juice) at the same price point.
