I would open it, but at the right time.

At a party I threw a week and a half ago, I was tasting some whiskies with friends, and felt the need to open up "something really special": my second-to-last bottle of Four Roses Mariage 2009, one of my favorite bourbons ever.

When I finish the last of it, I will be very, very sad.

Personally, I'd take it along to a tasting with Craig Beam... Wait till the end of the event, open it up and share a pour or two with him.  Get a photo r two to commemorate the occasion, and have a great memory to talk about.

I would save it for a special occasion, but definitely open it. I've got several bottles like this (not this one in particular) that are patiently awaiting my son turning 21, retirement, next house, etc.

I'd open it..  They made it to drink.  Special occasions are nice and all but life is short and can be shorter than we plan.

As others have noted, I'd open it on a special occasion.  I'd just make opening this bottle the special occasion!  ;)

This is one thing I enjoy about SB. Everyone seems to enjoy drinking their bourbon. I agree that you should open it on a very special occasion.

When I have people over who really appreciate a good bourbon, I'll usually ask them if there's anything they'd like to try.  If there is, I'll open it (if it's not open already).  But usually they're just dumbfounded by the possibilities, so I suggest something and we go from there.  That's the kind of occasion where I'd open the EC20.  I wouldn't be in a rush to open it.  But I wouldn't be afraid to either.

This is the reason why I've stopped myself from feeling "guilty" when I open a nice bottle.

Hey Guys, -appreciate all your comments, I know that I will for sure open it, the last one was soooo good, and if it were any other Barrel #, I wouldn't hesitate. It's just kind of cool to have #1, and the fact that there were 2 on the shelf of the same.

Just wanted to hear from you guys on what you would do.

As far as special occasions go, If I wake up the next day that's special enough for me.

I agree that the barrel number does make it really cool.  I have an open, non-number 1, bottle that i have never cared for because I thought it to be too oaky.  I use it to water down ECBP and enjoy it that way but I never cared for EC18 back in the day anyway.  Might as well open it but keep the empty as a souvenier.

this is a great idea, easier for me, since I live in TN

Great idea to take it to a tasting with Craig Beam.  As much as I love opening new bottles or old favorites, when I am down to the last of a favorite series, it's awfully hard.

I was lucky to find several bottles of PHC POH, and enjoyed it immensely, but getting down to the last few left, it was harder and harder to open.  Now I am down to my last, and will probably wait a bit to open it.  Dang fine bourbon.

I bet the EC18 barrel #1 is amazing.  But eventually you should open it!

It's just a glass bottle with two labels and some writing on it, that is, until you open it up and enjoy.
