Age Statements

I'm not going to start a litany of all the age statements I've seen go in the last few years (but I could).  Instead, I asked myself what's still around?  I'm not taking about one off single barrel selections like Four Roses does.  I'm thinking of regular brands, not crazy expensive, and something most of us could consistantly find without too much effort.  My winner is a Beam product, with the initials K.C. (9 years old and 100 proof).  The single barrel 120 proof, even better.

There are a couple runner ups.  HH has a 6 year and a 10 year (McKenna) bonded bourbon.  The 6 year has a limited distribution.  McKenna comes and goes as far as being available.

Eagle Rare is 10 years old.  I know some people really like it.  To me it's just ok.  I'm not a huge BT mash bill #1 fan.  Honestly, my last bottle or regular Buffalo Trace tasted better.

RR10 is good and readily available. I know Weller 12 is a myth to a lot of people but it's usually found down here. Does Smooth Ambler age stated count, as the 6-10 years are often around but many are store picks, granted.

FC 6y, at least around here it's still age stated (I don't know if it is or not)

Old Ezra 101 7yr is one of my favorite under $20 bottles still available around KC (Kansas side).  I wonder how long that will last . . .

Ok, RR 10 is a regular age stated brand most of us could find.  Same for Bakers.

Weller 12 is too scarce.

Newer bottles of FC are NAS.

Anything bottled in bond is age stated,  right?  If this is a game, I don't really get it. ..

Limited distribution, but HH's Virgin   101 7yr would be one.

Is Old Charter 8 still age stated?  I believe the number of age stated standard offerings continues to dwindle with more age stated offerings being special releases.  This has been and will continue to be the trend until the producers catch up with the demand.

It is not. It's just a numeral now.

Bottled in bond without an age statement has to be at least 4 years old.

I guess the game is; since EC and a bunch of other brands have dropped the age, what's left?

I'm trying to be positive as far as we still have options.

I saw some VOB (80 or 86) recently with 6 year on the neck.  I don't know if it was just older stock.

Old Crow.  IOW, anything under 4 yrs old.

In what turns out to be a bizarre twist as a result of legal requirements, many bottom shelf bourbons carry the mantle for age statements.

I believe anything labeled "straight whiskey" must be at least 2 years old.  If there is no age statement, it has to be at least 4 years old.  So something like Crow in between 2 and 4 has an age statement.  I think I'll pass on that one.
