Mixing Water of Kentucky Bourbon

For the past several months I have been using Old Limestone filtered spring water in ice balls and water to add to my bourbon.  I actually have noticed a difference in some blind tastings I've done using my local tap water and this - our tap water is extremely hard in comparison to this water.  I wonder if anyone else has tried this water and compared it to the ice or water of their respective locales?  FWIW.

Nah - If I use water, I just use bottled water like Dasani or something readily available.

I'm very choosy about what water I'll use to make coffee, as a lot of tap water will cut through a nice coffee and give it an off note.

Once I've found the water that works with coffee, I generally use it for all taste-critical water-addition pursuits.

My favorite brand of bottled water in the US is a brand called Evamor. For a while in Austin I was able to get Highland Park spring water, but it seems like they killed distribution on that because after a month I never saw it again in the States.

Fortunately in my apartment outside of London I have found that my tap water tastes great (ie neutral), so that has saved me a lot of money on bottled water during my time there.

I've never tried Old Limestone, but would happily give it a go if I encounter it.

I only consume filtered or spring water here for ice, coffee, cooking and drinking.  Our tap water has more chlorine than the swimming pool and it's very hard.  :o

I don't add water/ice to my whiskey much anymore but we've got fairly hard water here and tap water and/or ice made from tap water will definitely have a negative impact on the whiskey. Ice is particularly unforgiving.

I've considered Old Limestone, but normally i just use filtered water from the fridge door to make ice balls/large cubes.

Chuck's blog has a post about this today (18 Feb).  I used to use a Brita filter regularly but haven't in quite awhile.  Maybe my taste buds are getting old, too; I can't tell the difference or maybe since I drink the same tap water most of the time and don't find the local WashDC water bad at all, I've gotten used to it.

OTOH, I have experimented with different still and sparkling waters in cocktails (and still water in ice cubes with BPers) and do have a few preferences for particular cocktails.  Not so much on the barrel proofers, though, or on most cocktails.

I have a reverse osmosis system in my house, so I use that now, but have always liked Fiji water to dilute as well.  Would like to try Old Limestone, but not sure if I would notice a difference.

Ditto for me.  Whatever bottle is on hand is what I use.

I buy the gallon distilled water jugs and use those to fill my water droppers and Ice cube trays. I also leave it near my couch so I can fill my water glass whenever I want

This level of preparation is very similar to Harry leaving OGDBIB in the waste can next to his recliner. (Never needs to get up for a refill once comfortable. Genius.)

I have a 5mo. old at home right now, so if I'm holding her watching the hockey game, getting up really is a chore
.we are Hockey buddies, and she likes to watch the Hawks in their red home jerseys. She usually makes it through the first period with me before she falls asleep.
I was holding her last night, and when I put her on my shoulder to burp her, she fussed until I set her down facing the tv next to me.
She wanted to see the game!

Ps, my wife is a nurse practitioner, so we watch or games on thurs/Fri when she works nights. We are one game behind, so don't mention the last game just yet :)

I know there are other hawks fans here.

Having seen several ads for Old Limestone I ordered a couple of bottles but hadn't had occasion to open it until this weekend when a visitor wanted to add some water to a BP Bourbon.  I didn't really expect there to be a difference and had just poured some of the Old Limestone in my glass to taste it on its own - to my surprise there was a difference in the taste in comparison to tap, bottled, filtered water.  I had not intention of adding water to my pour but forgot it was in the glass when I added the bourbon and was surprised at how much better it was

 

Guess I'll be ordering more soon - never seen Old Limestone in a store anywhere and have looked particularly when back home in Kentucky

I use my tap water. But I'm on a well so there is no chlorine. Definitely hard water though, calcium mostly I believe.

Where I live we have excellent well water, so when I am ready for a poor, I just add some crushed ice to my glass, and enjoy.
