So looks like Barton's next limited release is a 1792 single barrel:

Barton 1792 Distillery Releases Limited Edition Single Barrel Bourbon

BARDSTOWN, KENTUCKY (Feb. 24, 2016) – A new Single Barrel Bourbon is the latest limited edition expression in the premium 1792 whiskey collection from Barton 1792 Distillery. All of the bourbon used in this bottling was distilled and aged at the historic Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown before being selected and tasted for its exceptional quality. The bottling took place on a small hand bottling line that only allows one barrel to be processed at a time.

Bottled at 98.6 proof, this Single Barrel Bourbon is the third expression released from 1792 Distillery.  Previous special releases are now sold out, such as the Sweet Wheat and Port Finish Bourbons. Like those, this limited edition Single Barrel Bourbon will be available in most states.

Master Distiller Ken Pierce describes this release as having, “the flavors of butterscotch and caramel notes, delicately balanced with hints of fruit and toffee.  The body is rich and lingers on the tongue for a delicate and pleasant finish.”

The 1792 Single Barrel bourbon is expected to hit stores in late February at the suggested retail price of $39.99.  Barton 1792 Distillery plans to release even more new and different 1792 expressions throughout the year.

for $40 I wonder if it's any better than store picks that I stocked up on for $30.

If it as good as the Port Barrel finish and Sweet Wheat I am sure I will try it.

I'm looking forward to this one as well.  I'll be curious to the timing this hits VA as the Sweet Wheat seemed to make it into VA last August (when I believe it was released in July).

hopefully it's much better than the store picks, as I've loved the 1792's that I've picked up.  Sweet Wheat I thought was ok, I'll have to go back and try the bottle as I haven't gone back to it since I first bought it last summer.

I'm more interested in the rumored barrel proof.

I am interested in that one also, just haven't seen a time line on when it might be released, have you?

This was released in NC this week so I am sure it should be making its way to other stores in the very near future.

Is this a NAS release?  I have 9 year old store selections at home, I doubt I'll jump in for this release unless reports are extremely positive.

Definitely NAS.  Nothing special on the bottle but "Single Barrel" and the proof.  I'm not very good at tasting notes, but I'll give it a shot.

I had the 1792SB last night and again tonight.  Similar both nights.  Tonight I compared it to regular 1792 as a reference point.  Surprisingly enough, the regular 1792 had the more pronounced nose.

I would describe the nose of the 1792SB as delicate.  I did get a banana bread thing going at one point.  The mouthfeel was medium.  I would go for a little more substance personally.  Taste was on the fruity side to me with a cinnamon finish.  I didn't expect much from the finish from a lighter whiskey like this, but it came back a bit on me and I liked it.  Longer than anticipated.

Overall I would say this is a tastier expression of 1792, but not a gamechanger.  If you like 1792 you should definitely like 1792SB.  It's a nice bottle of whiskey and I will enjoy drinking it, but I won't rush out to make it a permanent part of my herd.

No, I haven't seen anything more about the barrel proof. Other then the rumors. I'm hoping they will be doing the same as last year with two special releases.

A six-bottle limited allocation (no replacements) of the 1792SB hit here in the PRM (People's Republic of Massachusetts) yesterday.  $31.99 OTD.  Five (5) were put out when they came in @ noonish - now only three (3) left on the shelf for this morning (heh, heh).

so I got a bottle and opened it up and had a taste a few nights ago, kind of a subtle banana flavor to it.  not sure if I dislike it or not, but I was kinda put off by it.  any one else get this in there bottle?

I got one of these a month back and finally opened it.  I went through it in a week.  I'm on my second bottle and I really like it. I just found the Full Proof stuff today and got 2 bottles.  I plan on cracking one opened tonight.  Really looking forward to that as well.  I feel like 1792 is doing some things right with these new offerings.  I drink the flagship 1792 but now I'll skip that for the single barrel or Full proof.

If I don't like 1792, do you think the Full Proof is different enough to warrant giving a try?

Maybe.    I like all of 'em; but find the Full Proof really shines for me.   If the Barton style appeals to you, I find the FP has it in spades.   Here's what I taste: Big cereal flavors, nice spice in the back, sweet enough so the oak isn't forward too much, and a nose that reminds me very much of the air in Bardstown when Barton is drying their spent mash...Lovely!

I have tried all 4 and like the single barrel the best. My guess would be if you did not like the single barrel you probably will not like the full proof.

Thanks. That was my assumption, but sometimes increasing the proof can really change a bourbon.

I like VOB, but I've not been able to come around to 1792
