Early 80's Weller Special Reserve - why no age statement?

Anyone come across any bottles like this in their 80's drinking days?  For whatever reason, still during the glut, Stitzel Weller periodically dropped the 7 year age statement from Weller Special Reserve...see attached add.  Trust me, no age statement on the back label either.  Were they really putting younger whiskey in there when they had such aged glut stocks?  Any facts around this odd early 80's period would be appreciated...

Beautiful Ad. Not only is there no age statement but they've even dropped the term "OLD" off the new label.

You mention the 'back label'.    Do you have such a bottle to inspect closely?

If so, can you place a pic here for all to see?
