Flaviar Speakeasy Club

Hi, I'm still new but was wondering if anyone had done any tasting boxes through Flaviar.com or bought any bottles from them?  I know my wife is looking for Birthday ideas for me and I'm not sure if I should talk her out of trying this for me as opposed to buying  a couple nice bottles.

You can probably get much better recommendations of what to drink on SB.com then through this "speakeasy club." It will also cost a lot less.

Very true, that was my feeling also.  $240/yr ($60 Quarter) can purchase a lot of nice bourbon instead of some samples that could be hit or miss.

Don't do it.  You're overpaying for what you get.  These clubs are designed for gift giving and people who don't know any better and are unwilling to educate themselves.  The clubs play middleman and take their cut.  You never know if you're getting quality at a high price or steered wrong at an even higher price.  Flaviar can't rebottle in the U.S. due to our spiderweb of liquor laws.  They rebottle and ship from Slovenia.  That's a long trip for your bourbon and you're the one paying the price.  You're much better off seeking advice here and trying different things at your local well stocked bar.

It's a nice thought for a gift (I once did something similar for my Dad with a wine club), but certainly not the best economic decision.  It may also depend where you live and if you have easy access to a handful of local liquor stores that carry interesting bottles.  If so, she could get you a gift card (or 6 at $50 for the gift that keeps on giving) to a liquor store.  Or take you to a nice restaurant / bourbon bar and let you do some sampling.   If you live in a remote location, then a mail order club might be a something to try if cost isn't really a barrier.

I had a friend whose wife joined a wine club. They were told that they'd receive several different bottles from a list, and that the bottles they'd receive would vary. The list included all different kinds of wines, some high end, and some low end, etc... The bottles they received did vary, but it seemed they always got bottles the company had good stocks of, but were cheaper, lower end offerings. It wasn't very often, if ever, that they ever got any "good" bottles. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the tips and feedback.  I live in Southeast Michigan and have a found a few liquor stores near work and home that have a decent selection.  One near work has done a couple single barrel selects.  I'll try to talk her into the gift card/bottles but let her do her thing.
