Enoch
I have wanted one of these and finally got one on eBay. It is made of tin and possibly homemade. I know from old catalogs the cheaper ones were tin and more expensive ones copper (which I would rather have) but since it is the first one I have ever seen for sale, much less at a reasonable price, I'm very excited to have and display it. SebastianLloyd
Plan on using it too?
Richnimrod
Great Pick Up, Enoch! Always wanted one, myself; but balked at the cost of the few I've run across. Now all you need a barrel full of something worth 'thieving', eh? Have Fun!
ken_mays
I admit I clicked on this thread hoping you were employed at a distillery and collared some larcenous goober trying to make off with a barrel of something.
camduncan
Great find! Well done! FYI... Heaven Hill sometimes sell them at the gift store. They aren't cheap, but are very well made.
DPPSmoker
I have been interested to have my cousin (a welder by trade) make one for me. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult. The thing that has held me up is my difficulty in finding a cone shaped copper fitting to put at the end. I've gone in various hardware shops and I can find all kinds of copper reducers but I can't find a cone shaped piece.
TheNovaMan
He should be able to take a piece of copper pipe, make pie cuts in the end, and form his own cone. The cross section might not be perfectly circular, but it would be generally cone shaped. Does he TIG weld?
Enoch
I'm convinced mine is home-made. Very simple design. He folded over both edges of a sheet of tin so that they locked when rolled into a tube. Same thing with the nose piece. It then appears that he sealed them with lead solder he finally soldered them together and soldered an iron washer to the top for a thumb hole.
